Benefits of Green, White, & Black Tea
I noticed that a lot of contest prep diets include these teas...Can anyone tell me the benefits of drinking these while cutting down? I'm currently dieting and wondering what the big deal is.
I'm aware that green tea has been shown to aid in fat loss, but are there any other benefits?

I make my own green iced tea. No sugar or sugar subs in it - just cold water and green tea. I don't take it for any health reason, I just like it better than plain ole water sometimes!
Check out the ref section for green tea on wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_tea#References
Some interesting studies in there.
As far as bodybuilding goes, I'm not sure if they're drinking the actual brewed tea, or some kinda tea-extract pill of sorts.

She just asked a question... It's called a FORUM, you don't have to answer.. jeez
Anyways, green tea is a strong anti-oxidant/insulin regulator and has enough caffeine to increase blood flow to the brain without stimulating your heart too much.
Black tea has trace fluoride if I remember correctly, and will slightly fight off tooth decay. It also has theophylline which lowers cholesterol levels. It's also good for GI discomfort..
Don't know much about white tea, but i would assume it's along similar lines.
I stick to green tea, and even take a lot of EGCg (green tea extract).

Excuse me? Spoonfeedings? I'm at work and don't have the time to filter through all the crap on google to find an answer to my question that relates to BODYBUILDING. If you haven't noticed, the real world does not specialize and cater to this lifestyle and my question was specifically about the benefits for bodybuilding and cutting weight.
I'm the woman, but your the one with PMS?
To everyone else, thank you for your responses...do you all drink these teas on a regular basis? I'm thinking of switching up morning coffee for tea...but I'm not that keen on the idea as it's never really satisfied me in the same way. Willing to drink it though, if it will help with dieting related grogginess/exhaustion, etc...

During my lunch break, yes. As you can tell from my post history - I'm rarely on here. And who the hell are you anyways?
Don't like women who lift weights? Get over it.

Damn right..
About the coffee/tea switch. You don't have to do that; they both offer dieting/cutting benefits.
I would drink 2-4 cups at work, or even better just get some EGCg which has a MUCH higher concentration of catachins (sp?)
I take it 15 minutes before every meal to help regulate insulin.

Smart. See? Now there's something that would have taken me forever to find on google. I prefer real advise from people with hands on experience - not a journalist writing an article on the "benefits of green tea and a long life". Thanks so much!

Some teas contain more antioxidants than others; but for the most part, it's all good. White tea comes to mind. They're basically green tea leaves picked prematurely. My advice would be to experiment with different types and flavors to see what you enjoy best.
I usually stick with a gunpowder green tea in the morning / afternoons, and camomile or roobis tea in the evenings because they are non caffeinated. As far as body composition is concerned, you won't notice a difference between different types of teas. Drink for taste & health.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I am not expecting to see much in the way of body composition changes with implementing tea into my diet...I'm not completely sold on it, I mean can't we get the same sort of benefits from blueberries (which are allowed on my diet, in moderation) and proper supplementation? Willing to try and see though...
