The official Ramadhan thread 2008
I was searching through the various forums here and found no thread concerning this year's Ramadhan. So i am creating this one... First of all a very happy Ramdhan to all my Muslim Brothers.. May this year's Ramadhan bring more peace, happiness and faith in our lives. May Allah shower us all with his blessings in this Ramadhan.
We can discuss here all that is in connection with bodybuilding and Ramadhan. We know that we are a Muslim first and then a bodybuilder, but still we need to at least preserve our hard earned muscle mass during this month, since the body is in a catabolic state most of the time during this month. Please discuss various strategies regarding how we can achieve the best possible in both religion and fitness during this holy month..
• Thread Rules:-
1) No Personal Attacks.
2) No Plagiarism.
3) No Abusive Words.
4) No hate Speech.
5) No Irrelevant Advertisements.

Man u talking abt 20 mins??? It was my back day today i i started training after a huge meal in Iftar time. I lasted for hardly 12 minutes as i lifted damn heavy. So i am thinking of changing my training style from heavyweight -low reps to moderate weight- high reps so as to bring out the definition and maintain the existing mass this month. Man i have lost some serious strength!

Muscle maintainence tips during Ramadhan
Presently, since the days are too long and nights short so the fasting period is more as compared to the previous years. This time, the fast lasts for almost 15 hours! So remaining without food and drink straight for 15 hours is surely going to get our bodies in a catabolic state...Also we don't get much time to eat after Iftar since we have to offer Taraweeh and Isha salaat+ we have to workout during this time, so we can hardly take two meals spaced 2-3 hours apart after the Iftaar. So Guys, keeping all this in view here is a 3 point solution in my view to maintaining as much muscle as possible during Ramadhan:-
1. During Sahoor, take in at least 500 ml of whole or 2% milk. Preferably mix casein powder in it so as to get some extra casein along with the milk casein. If your stomach allows, take in also a pack of cottage cheese since it is also very high in casein. This protein will get slowly digested into your system and prevent catabolism for a long time(Some forms of casein take 12-13 hours to get completely digested and assimilated).
2. Stay up till late after Iftar so that u can take at least three meals spaced equally apart so as to prevent Insulin spikes which will in turn result in fat gain. That's right, if you take a huge meal after Iftar in which u consume large quantities of carbs, protein and fats; like most of us usually do, then most of it will remain unused and cause an insulin spike to occur in your body. This will in turn result in a slower metabolism and then eventually fat again. To prevent this from happening, take a smaller pre workout meal after Iftar which will consist of complex carbs and Whey protein in order to replenish your nutrient stores. Then after an hour or so, workout after which you will take another meal which would be post workout. You can take lean protein sources in this meal so as to prevent muscle catabolism. The last meal would be before bed which would again be a casein protein source + a complex carb source. This way you will be atleast able to take in 4 meals per day.
3. Train with moderate weights instead of heavier ones. Since you know that in this month your body will be hunting your own muscle mass for it's metabolic requirements, so you can forget the idea of making gains this time. Instead you must focus on improving your definition and preferably cut during this month because this is already to good chance to lose fat. So the moderate weight - high rep range would be the optimum best!
Please add more points if you have got any ideas...

I had a Muslim roommate at college last year, and I accidently ate some Skittles in front of him during Ramadan. I didn't know it had started yet. He never forgave me, and after Ramadan would routinely eat Skittles in front of me and refuse to give me any.

Additionally, if it's any inspiration to your training, Hakeem Olajuwon won the NBA Finals while fasting, and Hamza Abdullah of the Denver Broncos got the first interception of his career last year during Ramadan. He even claims he plays best while fasting.

In for the Ramadan Rep trade!
Training is going awesome so far. Had a leg day yesterday, doing arms tomorrow, God-Willing. I'm shedding some fat for the next few months so Ramadan came at the right time.

Don't worry, beneath those 209 pounds there is a hard and muscular SYRIANKID waiting to get shredded. I bulked for a whole year and made some big strength gains, now it's time to slim.

My bf was more than 20%, it was closer to 25% when I took the pic at the end of my bulk.
Oh btw, pics > no pics every single time. Don't hate on me just because I'm four full years ahead of you in strength and size.

This is not happening for the first time... Always some unscrupulous elements jump in whenever they see a Ramadhan thread and start bashing the Muslims. However, this thread is for discussing Bodybuilding in Ramadhan. Read the rules above and then post.....

I don't know that I would call it "bashing". I realize you take your religion very seriously, but he really was just joking. Besides, if you take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive.
