Is drinking alcohol bad for losing weight? (Hard A, not beer)

I will be returning back to college in a couple weeks here and drinking is just one of the things to do. If I drink, lets say hard A, with very little calories, would this be fine? I have had a clean diet/strenuous workout program for the past four months and lost about 30 pounds, and got a bit more to go. Will drinking hard alcohol have any bad effects on my weight loss?

alchohol is going to slow down the weight loss definetly, at least that is what Ive experienced. Its not really the calories but effects from the alcohol itself. You can still drink, just dont do it everyday

Just watch for the ones with high amounts of sugar in them. Two reasons 1. You get the worst hangover ever and 2. It's a f***ing massive amount of sugar and that doesn't help when lifting.

i switched from drinking beer to vokda and diet tonic. which i think is 60 calories a drink instead of 150. i noticed that my hangover was nothing. im convinced that my previous hangovers were sugar hangovers.

Bacardi silver is lower in cals than vodka. It comes down to wether you want to drink and have fun or be dedicated and lift and see good results with a limited social life, as you would probably be getting more sleep without partying as much. I drink and train hard, I definatly am not maximizing my results because of the drinking but i do still get results just not near as fast as i would without the alcohol.

ALcohol is not good for you, but not experiencing college and having a social life is more detrimental. If partying and drinking is what you want to do, then go do it. Do not waste your college experiences worrying about fat gains, yes diet + spirits have the most bang for the buck, but if someone offers you a beer, you take it. You'll have plenty of time after graduation to be healthier, so cherish those years and get a lil tipsy, act like you normally wouldn't and go hit on some freshman.

As long as the partying didn't take away from my course load I did it hard and I kept a very reasonable physique throughout my 2-3 nights of solid drinking for 4 years. Would I be much bigger and have more muscle had I not drinken? Of course.. by miles. But I wouldn't change anything I did over those years.

The thing is with alcohol is that it A) contains a lot of sugar and B) contains calories which have the nutritional benefit of a brick and C) stimulates apetite so you end up eating more than usual

If I don't drink, I find I lose weight more easily.

It definetly hurts, but if you cant fight thru the next day and still go to the gym and eat healthy then that would help alot. When I was in the best shape of my life, I could get completely blacked out and not even feel the hint of a hangover the next day. One thing I did when I was cutting, was just consider when your drinking. Having those 3 extra beers when you get home with your roomates is useless. Sitting around watching tv drinking beers is useless as well. I found if I limited to just nights where there were actual parties worth going to and/or nights were the bars were cracking, then it wasnt too bad. Bottom line like some others said, if you want to party then do it. 5 years from now, those 5 extra pounds of body fat will mean nothing compared to some of the fun college memories (or non-memories) you have.

And yes, you can have fun without drinking but who doesnt like to let loose on the weekends a little bit?

Alcohol is a definite no no when it comes to cutting.

Will alcohol slow your losses? Yes. Will alcohol stop your losses? Only if you drink to excess often and don't put any thought into it.

I love beer. When I know I'm going out and I might be drinking, I leave some room in my daily calories for it. As long as you can spare a modicum of planning, there's no reason why you can't enjoy your drinks every now and then.

Drinking will also increase your appetite, and make you not as strict when making decisions regarding eating. Something else to consider.

I turned 21 in the middle of my "transformation". I had lost 35+ lbs and then once I became old enough started drinking 2-3 nights a week, sometimes more. Only becuase there wasn't a whole lot else to do. My progress came to a screeching halt for 2 months and i'm just now getting back in the swing of things. It also made the bottom part of my belly pudge out further.

I haven't completely cut my beloved beer out but its never more than 1 night a week and only if its an occasion worth getting buzzed for (ie, tailgate parties).

Anyways its only been a couple weeks since I majorly cut back and its made a huge difference.

So yeah, what everyone else said. Moderation. Try to do it no more than 1 night a week.

Side note: what is the "most healthy" (i know that's an oxymoron) method to get drunk?

I cant believe some of you fellow college students are afriad to go out and drink because it might slow down your progress of getting a 6 pack. That's absolutely ridiculous. Go out, have fun, meet girls. Or, maybe you need to transfer to a school who's girls are actually pretty. Hotty Toddy =)

*you can still live a healthy lifestyle and have fun at the same time, just watch what you drink

This is my point, I am not saying you have to be the LIFE of the party, but if you do decide to go out, go out and have a good time. As long as you don't succumb to drunken munchies after a long night of booze and you drink plenty of water before sleeping you should be able to get right on track again the next day with your regimen.

I've stopped binging for a month now and I've already had comments on my stomach looking flatter. A year ago I'd go on 17 hour binges with my friends and wake up fine the next morning, just tired and maybe still drunk, but these days I can't do it without getting a ripping hangover, so I just drink for around 10 hours haha. Even in that amount of excess, I don't regret a thing because I had a hell of a good time with my friends.

Yes it is bad for losing weight. No do not stop doing what you want to do while you are young just because it may hinder progress.

I gave up the sauce for 4 months when i was trying to lose weight.. Im sure it had a great impact on it, i wasnt the biggest drinker, i went out maybe 3 times a weeek, Friday nite was the 20 drink nite , but anyways...When i was happy where i was with my body, i started to drink a lil agian once a weekend...

I go to Penn State, drinking is every night....I only do it once a week and go to the gym the next day, its hard but its worth it....

I do drink a glass or two of red wine a day, i am Italian, plus its good for you.
