    What is a "hitched" deadlift

I been looking around and seen the term used from time to time. Im not exactly sure of what it means but is it when you back kinda turns into a mountain?

Not in a powerlifting meet. Its up to you if you want to count it if you hitched it in the gym.

Ok and one more deadlift question; Whenever I go heavy I cant keep my form perfect, no matter what if I go in the 1-3 rep range my back gets really rounded. What should I focus on to get rid of that problem?

no it doesn't. to me, a 1RM is when you can do only 1 rep of a movement while keeping your form perfect

If its your lower back that rounds, then lower the weight and get stronger. If its your upper back, I would not worry to much about it. Most powerlifters lift with a rounded upper back to some extent.

Well if your really worried about it, then lower the weight some and work on your form. Rounding of the upper back is going to happen when lifting close to your 1rm...there is no way around it. Work your upper back doing lots of rows.

PL rules say that it's OK to pause on the way up so long as the bar doesn't go down, which is what I thought hitching is.

Front and Zercher squats are also great upper back exercises.

I pulled that out of the WABDL rule book....exactly as they have it posted. I too think the up/down movement is hitching but the rule book does not say this.

OK. I think the BWLA (which uses the IPF rulebook I think) allows for a pause but not an up down movement. I think I'll just pull really hard and hope for the best.

A pause is one thing as long as you continue a smooth pull after. But what I think they mean by hitching is after a pause, the lifter continues with a jerk to get it moving again.
