Should MMA be an Olympic sport for 2012?
I think MMA should definitely be an Olympic sport in 2012. I would think most here would agree. If you don't agree, I'd be interested to know why.

It should be, but it won't be - and it wouldn't be true MMA if it was. They'd have to wear headgear and it would probably be scored on a point system like boxing.

Yes, but it won't because it's too violent and if they soften it up to the point where it's palatable as a point-fighting sport, it won't be the same sport.
At least that's what I've said in all the other threads about this.
*edit* Wow Muirsy, great minds think alike!

Given what Hardgainer and muirsy say, I'd say we'd have a better chance at seeing pancrase in the Olympics, especially since it was like, the OG Olympic sport (well, "pankration" was, but that was more violent than even MMA, I think!)!

I think ur retarted if u think its a good idea to have MMA in the Olympics. First of all if they did it like normal MMA which would never happen but if they did how would a fighter be able to go more than a coupl fights. If they have a war with someone, win or loose ther not gonna fight again in the next few days. And then Amateur mma with headgear n sh*t would be equally as retarted. The best new sport they could put in is BJJ for sure and mayb a K-1 style sport implemented.

It won't be and I don't think it should be.
The sport is still growing. There are what 216? countries and the sport is only popular in at most 10 countries.

good point, after one fight most fighters would be injured if it was full out mma.

It would be nice, and if it was a olympic sport i'm pretty sure even within 4 years they would have better fighters than any current ones fighting in orgs now

not really
presently the amatur talent pool just isn't big enough
people go pro after a VERY limited amatuer run so it would not be Olympic level stuff we were seeing
also it would be a scoring nightmare
International judges can't get Gymnastics or Boxing right so why the hell would they get MMA right when WE don't even know how those fights are really scored

this is the second olimpics that ppl ask why isnt mma in the olympics.... we would all love it was... but again... its a mix of all the other sports and the olympics hq love having single sports performed.. they see mma as a bestard child in martial arts... but i hope one day it is... but it prolly wont happen in our lifetime.
but whocares anyways with olympic weightlifting, judo, boxing and wrestling im satisfied for now....and theres enough mma shows out there to give out for free..theres alot of bjj and muay thai/kickboxing tournaments everywere... so its not like were not over saturated with them already.... but it would be nice to see medals handed out to the best in bjj,muaythai... and them have them compete in mma... i heard that a few of the olympic wrestlers that competed in this years are comming to mma.... ohh joy....
actually guys just send the guys of the international olympic committee ( http://www.olympic.org/) they are thinking of adding pankration...( its a good start!! the roots of mma).. we just need more ppl tto make a case.. but they are thinking about it for the
2016 olympics
the original greek olympics had pankration.. so its not that off

I keep wondering who other then the US, Japan, Russia, and Brazil would compete.
It'd just be a contest to see who doesn't medal in each weight class.

China would get in just based on the number of people they have
also I wouldn't mind seeing Pankration involved but I dunno
they could get it in probubly based on the fact that it was previously in the Ancient Olympics but it's different then our form of MMA

Because if it was an Olympic sport countries like china would have fighters that were trained by the government.
