Sometimes its better to add reps instead of weight

Say you are stuck at 3 x 300lb for squats for some time. You just can't progress to 3 x 305lb no matter what.

    It may be better to try for 4 x 300lb then 5 x 300lb. After you managed to hit 5 reps,you might find 3 x 305lb a breeze.

Not rocket science nor Weight training's Revelation of the Year, just something which has worked for me,hope it does for you when you are stuck.

Anyone understands the science behind this?
My goal when I come in everyday is to make sure if somebody beats me,it is not because they outwork me. ~Layne Norton.
