10,000 calories?
Hey Guys,
This was just posted on CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/diet....iet/index.html
Quote:
"if carb-loading were an Olympic competition, U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps would probably medal there, too. His day starts with three cheese-tomato-onion-fried egg sandwiches, an omelet, three powdered-sugar-covered slices of French toast, a bowl of grits and three chocolate chip pancakes to top it off, according to news reports.
Phelps told reporters earlier this week he was instructed to eat between 8,000 and 10,000 calories every day. Other news reports put the total as high as 12,000 calories."
Do you guys think that this is true? His body fat is like 7-6%... it just does not make more sense to me....

What doesn't make sense to you? If it doesn't, then you don't understand how the body works.
The guy spends the whole day training, HOURS upon HOURS.
He doesn't just eat that much and hit the gym for 45 minutes and look the way he does.

Yep, I got this way purely because I have a fast metabolism. No training at all. No hours spent in the gym, no fighting through injuries, no blood, sweat and tears! I sure as hell have never pushed myself harder than A LOT of you on this site ever will, and I most definitely neglected my diet too.
Yep, my physique is PURELY GENETIC...Unbelievable

its not like hes doing much lifting, his routine is similar to that of long distance runners...a ridiculous amount of carbs, and all day in the pool, prob with 3 days a week in the gym working on speed and strength. Genetics plays a huge role too...his metabolism is quick too
although Phelps diet seems a little exaggerated and a tad unhealthy, its working for him. Didn't he juts get his 11th Gold last night??
BRB, making omelets and French toast

In addition, swimming is a hell of workout. I would call myself a runner by any means, but I can do HIIT/ and long distance runs. I swam 2 laps today and had to rest. Obviously, its worse for me because I dont do it regularly. Nevertheless, with my cardiovascular skill, swimming knocked me out.
