I'm going to vote for the Labrador, simply because PERSONALLY I have never seen a more intelligent dog, the chocolate lab I know is smarter than my g/f.
But the dog I want, is a bloodhound.

I wish I could agree with that last bit, but unfortunately breeders down here don't seem to take the fairly basic principle of "spreading the genes out" very seriously.
There is so much inbreeding that you see dogs all over the place with bad hips and their tails permanently between their legs. It's not the case with every breed, but with enough of them to be easily noticed. Sadly I can't remember the last time I saw a healthy-looking German Shepherd here in Australia.

American Staffordshire Terrier and it is recognized... June 10, 1936 to be specific http://www.akc.org/breeds/american_s...shire_terrier/
There is also a Staffordshire Bull Terrier which became Approved November 14, 1989
Effective January 1, 1990
There are other variations and crossbreeds that have become popular and have either been approved or are on their way to being approved, but I think you get the point

So whos fault is it??? Ever hear of Ceasar Milan??? or Pavlov's theory???
and it is established by pack leader, Alpha, Omega and so on and they actually fall into formation when hunting when allowed in the wild... Which is one must establish a dominant alpha role in a household to provide a comfortable "home for doggie"The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion when no one else is watching!

Caucasion Mountain dog, one owner loyalty animals, very territorial and proctective very dominant agressive, and believed to derive from Tiebt or Mesopotamia over 2000 years ago... Very trainable and can be very good companions to the right families... but very hard to get...
