This has been the first time I have been able to compete in a full season of Highland Games and other events. Although I have taken care of my hands this year (after some painful lessons) they are starting to get seriously beat up. Blisters, callouses, cuts and tears, bruised nails. I'm proud of them, kinda makes me feel like I'm putting some work into all this.
No real point to this thread, just sort of rambling...

I got a good tip from the guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan:
He used to use really heavy guitar strings and after a while, his fingers would be a bloody mess.
He used to use superglue to fix broken nails and tears on his fingertips.
If you apply it in layers, it just feels like a callous.
I heard superglue was invented as an emergency field dressing and I know they use glue in hospitals now instead of sutures.
Might be worth carrying some in your kit bag.

Gnomus, you are my hero. I just recently learned of my families Scottish heritage. We have the Highland games here in Boone, NC very year. How the heck do you train for something like that? Did you make your own stuff, buy it? I think I have the size & strength to compete, but not the knowledge/understanding.
Just for fun I lift up heavy things until it hurts because it feels so good when I stop!
