Career In Supplement Industry
Don't really know where this should belong but how does one get into a career in the supplement industry? Such as working in big supplement companies and be part of the team that develops new supplements and etc. What kinda degree do you need? PhD's?? Also, how is the job market like? Are jobs easy or hard to find? And how is the compensation?
I have a passion in bbing and supplements and I'm thinking about a career relating to it. Anyone willing to share some advice?

Im currently in pharmacy school to get a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and I've been thinking how that may be a great degree to get me started in the supplement industry if I can be ambitious enough not to just go mak 100k+ out of college at CVS lol. Im specifically learning how chemical compounds taken into the body can react with the biochemical makeup of the human being, should be an excellent basis to create and/or market supplements.

I go to Mass. College of Pharmacy in boston and the whole taking a small pill to cure something in the body fascinates me too lol. I figure that someone has to develop these supplements and I think someone with actual chemical knowledge would have a better chance of coming up with something more effective.

Most are compensated, some are both paid and compensated. In most cases technically reps are not actual employees of the company though. A lot of it comes down to who you know (as with anything), although it seems more so in this industry. For people going through college, trying to find an internship is a good way to start - that's where you form the connections to land that sort of a job.

you just have to be full of BS and post alot on the boards and lie about your experience and supplement companies will ask you to develop products for them
no need to even go to college

a pharm degree will make you way overqualified to work for 99% of supplement companies
my friend mike fischer is a pharmacist up in minnesota and is trying to open up his own compounding pharmacy with a guy up there. i hooked him up with thermolife a couple of years ago and he did a couple of formulas for them.
Its a nice gig but it certainly is not a full time one for someone with a pharm degree

Probably a marketing degree is your best bet. Most REVOLUTIONARY MUSCLE POTENTIATORZ are proprietary blends of stuff that is already out there but ester-fied or frozen or something.

Direct contact, you'll have to cold sell on something like that. You won't find information like that listed. I've heard a couple companies say that they would be interested in at least considering doing internships, although they don't currently have active ones.

absolutely
but they also will (well, should at least) have a much higher threshold for efficay and safety then someone without, which unfortunately will put you behind alot of other companies

yes, a marketing degree will get you a position in this industry alot easier than a science degree. most companies would not have a clue what to do with a science guy
Always remember, this is a MARKETING driving industry, not a PRODUCT driven one

What would be the best major to uptake in college IF you were to want to be involved in the Supplement industry, possibly making or improving products?

And by the looks of the dead behind the eyes bimbos in the marketing program at my school it won't be hard to be a big fish in that pond.

there are no research jobs at most supplement companies. none. most are nothing but order fulfillment and sales and marketing places. phones fax machines and computers and thats about it. maybe a receptionists with big tits who everyone bangs too
almost every company lies when they say they have scientists who developed their products and that they have tested their products and blah blah blah. i mean blatanly lie. Its always been that way in this industry. It is a scam industry for the most part.
you really are very naive i am afraid

Haha. Just so you know for your own personal knowledge, pharmacists make on average 20% more in a retail setting, ie. cvs, walgreens, Rite-Aid etc. than they do in any hospital or more clinical setting. The average pay for hospital pharmacists is at about 80-90k per year, while retail pharmacists range from $100-120k.
