Protein Overdose?
I have always been under the impression that the body can only digest somewhere between 30-35 grams of protein every hour, and that its kind of like a car. If you put gas in a full tank, the excess gas will go to waste, or in our bodies terms, turn to fat, or simply sh*t it out.
Now Ive been living by this code for 3 years now. Ill have about 8-10 meals of day, with a source of protein not exceeding more than 35 grams per meal. Its worked well for me. I put on 40 pounds of lean mass, maintained single digit body fat...basically in the best shape of my life.
However, I continue to see posts of these guys consuming these monster protein shakes, consisting of 60, 70, even a 100+ grams of protein per shake. Then Ill see another post with somebody having 16 egg whites for a meal. At 6 grams of protein per egg, thats 96 grams of protein in one sitting.....
Am I missing something here? Have I been givin misleading information regarding protein consumption? Any input would help, as Im looking to put another 20-25 pounds of lean mass on, but want to know the TRUTH behind my question. Thanks.

There are some sources of protein that digest quicker than others. Your body may only absorb so much in an hour...but I don't think a piece of chicken or meat is completely broken down in an hours time. So though you may me correct on an absorption standpoint (which is debatable as there is always controversy on the subject) from a digestion standpoint I think there are too many variables to make such a blanket statement.
That said...what you are doing works well for you...so don't fix what ain't broken

you are correct my friend. they are just ****ting alot. HOWEVER, if you are on a contest diet, or a diet where you are cutting carbs out, and you HAVE TO MAKE UP THE CALORIES SOMEWHERE ELSE, you eat protein. i'll eat 300g protein per day, not because i need ALL OF IT, but because i must make up the calories from a lack of carbs and fat.

Thanks fellas for the input. I just wanted to confirm that you can in fact only digest so much protein per sitting. To put on more lean mass, I guess I got to consume more complex carbs and up them calories to 6 or 7 thousand per day......eeek :/

correct! protein is a constant. fat should always be in check and minimal unless on a LOW CARB diet. fluctuating the carbs will put the mass on or the mass off.
