I read somewhere on here I think that squats release chemicals that produce testosterone but I looked up the importance of squats on google and it didn't say anything about testosterone

well, some individuals claim that squats aren't necessary, and that you can get huge with other leg excercises like leg press, lunges, etc.
those individuals are also swole-ass 150 lbers.
Generally, compound lifts, especially when heavy, really get the juices flowing, so to speak.Current bests

Anything that brings major fatigue to the legs should do it. If you can't do squats for whatever reason, just do your best to work around it.
I don't have a rack here at home, so I do HEAVY leg ext's, leg curls, and lunges to keep size on and get the hormones flowing... I also do bulgarian split squats and set of 50 squats with no weight at all just to hit those muscles... of course, as soon as I get back to school, I'm going balls to the wall on squats...

first of all, I was under the impression that "getting big" when talking about squats would be implication enough for one to assume I meant big legs...lol.
Didn't mean you couldn't get big in general.
Secondly, if amateur BBers and highschool athletes(lol not exactly prestige, but you get the point) come to me, a donut eating fat kid, for advice, I must be doing SOMETHING right.
