Ok I have a fitness test for the Royal Marines in one week. I have to run 1.5 miles in less than 9:30 minutes. I can do this fine normally but for the past week i've had a bad knee injury which has prevented me from running. So I took a week off, got some rest, bought a decent pair of running shoes, but it's still there.
I run for about 2 minutes and then each time I come down on my right leg there it gets really painful around my knee. I put this down to running in terrible shoes and not warming up properly. I know i'm an idiot but I need this to heal quickly.
In the meantime i'll go swimming a few days but how can I speed up recovery for my knee?
Not much info to go on here. Where is the pain? How intense? When you run only or during specific movement (squat etc.)? Any creaking, cracking, popping noise? can you extend it fully? Will it bear your weight by itself?
- GO SEE A SPORTS DOC. NOW. If you need cortisone injections etc. you need it asap. YOu may need a referral to a podiatrist, or scans etc. If the NHS won't help you because it's broke this week, go see a private practice. Stay away from chiros, as they are quacks
- Take both ibuprofen and non-steroidal anti inflammatories (eg Voltaren) to shove down the inflam. With latter, either tablets (prob need prescription) or topical gel/cream.
- Ice
- Stretching/Massage of surrounding muscles depending on injury
