Stop Smoking
Hello all,
I've recently quit smoking after 7 long years of nothing but newports every hour on the hour and I just wanted to thank all of the people that helped in encouraging me to quit especially from this site. I've been smoke free for over 2 months now and I figured I would start a thread to help others stop smoking, encourage the ones who have quit, and see if it would stick.
A lot of you will probably think this is the most insane idea you've ever heard of because I know I did when I was told about this book called "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr. I don't work for him and i'm definetely not an affiliate of his, just a soldier in afghanistan that read the book and it worked for me. Believe me when the guys we were replacing said "hey if you want to quit smoking you should read this book" we looked at them like they where idiots and walked away to go smoke. Later I was bored and bought it off amazon for like 10 bucks and it has been by far the best investment I've ever made. If you think about how much you spend on cigarettes a month it's really not that much.
Best of luck to you all

Congratulations with your progress.
I myself have been smoke free for about two years now.
I haven't read this book, but I found a lot of good online resources at www.whyquit.com
A lot of good articles there, like "nicotine addiction 101", explains how your brain becomes dependant on nicotine.
I believe that reading up about nicotine addiction and educating oneself on the subject is very important in order to be able to quit.

Great works guys in this thread. I was 10 year smoker and am currently 5 1/2 months smoke-free.
I find it easy now but I used to fear the empty moments of not smoking, thinking I couldn't live without it.
All seems so silly today. Just got to re-wire your thinking after being an addict for so long. Once you get it right, it's easy. Best thing about being successful at this is you can apply the technique to other areas of your life to enhance yourself.

No, he (allen carr) does talk about that, but the main thing he really talks about is how easy it is to quit smoking. He said he was smoking 3-5 packs a day and just quit. He even talks about that, how smokers know it hurts their health and they know it's a waste of money and if you tell them that it just makes them light another one up haha. Most of the book is talking about how easy it is and how most of it is mental and how you can stop the urges to go smoke. I'm not one of those shallow minded people that can just be told somethin and be like "ok, I'll try it" either, I have to be convinced. He's helped over 10,000,000 people quit smoking, and I did all the research before I bought the book to just to make sure it wasn't some get rich quick scam someone was trying to do. It really worked for me.

Yeah, I was dreaming about smoking for like the first week after I quit. I sometimes get those weird random urges like I want a cigarette but they go away after I start doing something else.

You can do it man, I know a lot of people act like they are depriving themselves when they quit. You have nothing to lose when you quit smoking so don't think of it as depriving yourself. All the nicotine will be out of your system in 3 weeks, after that it's all mental.
