I'd like to get a couple some resistance bands as a gift. They travel a lot, so I figure it's about the smallest fitness thing they can bring anywhere. I'm thinking a set of bands of varying strengths and a door attachment. I have no experience at all with bands. What types of bands would a good basic set for beginners consist of? They haven't been involved in any strength training program, so they are beginners.

Beginners might be better off with flat bands. I bought my wife some valeo bands on amazon, pack of 3 different sizes for $20. They don't have handles though. If you want that, check into stretch tubes.
