Congratulations! Personally, I like cross-gender names for girls (like McKenzie) or ethnic names (we are of German descent, so I looked at Astrid when I was pregnant).

I really, really want to name any future daughter I have Aurora (the princess' name on Sleeping Beauty) but I can't imagine a husband letting me do that because it sounds kinda pretentious. LOL Maybe if I approach him with "Rori" (as a nickname) he'll go for it.
I also like names like:
Shay (my daughter's name...proper spelling is Shea but it didn't look right with her middle name)
Riley
Sage (almost my name--would have preferred over Amanda because it's uncommon)
Adrienne (but only spelled that way)

Isn't it funny how we want the "other" name our parents had? My parents almost named me Sioban (pronounched sha-von). I was so mad I got stuck with Erin.

Sioban is a cool name...would have driven you nuts the first day of school, though! LOL
My mom also wanted to name me Cherokee (which I don't think is at all pretty as an individual's name) or Cheyenne (every Cheyenne I've ever known is cute but a moron--so no thanks). And she wanted to name my brother Barthalameau instead of John sooooo...some of her choices weren't that great! Fortunately we all ended up with nice names, if not interesting names. LOL

haha - that is exactly why they didn't name me that. My mom said all she could see was me having to explain how to say my name every day. I have news for her, tons of people can't pronounce Erin, so I end up doing that anyways!
You definitely need to be careful of boys names. Boys are vicious towards one another.

I had a student named Ynabel (Spanish name - pronounced E-na-bell) and I loved it. But I know she is going to spend her entire life with people calling her Yah-na-bell.
Alejandra/Alexandra gets my vote as well. And, I have always liked the name Taylor for girls.

Are you one of those people who pronounce Aaron and Erin differently (so it drives you nuts when people call you "Aaron")?

No, to be honest, I have to concentrate to pronounce it differently. I answer to anything close. I draw the line at "Irwin" (which I get a lot).

That's why if I ever have a boy, I'll name him Thor. You don't mess with a boy named Thor.

I think they try to sound it out and use a soft "E". I have no idea, but it never ceases to crack me up.
