Seriously, the most signifigant music movement of the last few decades should have a thread.
I mean there is so much to discuss....like what happened to Grunge and music in general since then? Why has it gone so down hill?
What is your fav grunge band? Song? Album etc?
Did anybody on here get to see any great grunge bands live?
How bout those of you that grew up in the early 90's, there must be plenty of you on here, any memories? I know I have a few.
Not to be cliche but what about the suicide (allegedly) of Kurt, the OD of Lanye, or the tragic murder of Mia Zapada (Lead vocalist of the AMAZING grunge/punk band the Gits).
What about post-grunge...does anybody like it? I cant really say that I do....
Love the green river referance! they were good! AIC was just an amazing amazing band. So many great songs from rooster to man in the box, would, down in a hole etc. etc. Incredable band. So many have tried to copy them lately and none have come close. Layne was a huge loss V.V

As for the deaths, all great artists seem to have their lives cut too too short.
Grunge is just awesome. I picked up the DVD Hype! from wal-mart online for 10 bucks, and its friggin amazing. I've watched it a bunch of times and it rules. Some bands on there like the Posies, the Fastbacks, Mudhoney, Tad, Gas Huffer, and the like are bands that don't really get all that much attention because they were overshadowed by Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains (the fantastic four I guess you could say to be cliche). The DVD really portrays an interesting story about how the whole scene came about. I wish I was a little older so I could have been more in tune with it, but its nice to find out "new" bands to listen to now. Its amazing how even the mainstream stuff like Pearl Jam and Nirvana was infinitely better than the mainstream stuff thats out today, like Nickelback, that band ****in sucks.

I was coming in to neg the OP for using the word "grunge" to describe the music of that era, but I ended up repping him instead for mentioning Mia Zapata and The Gits.
Well there was some really good rap in the 80's and early-mid 90's but since then rap has been all bout bling and hoes, and as far as metal goes, most of the metal from those days were gloried pop singers with long hair imho...they couldnt hold a candle to the real emotion and the social awareness and messages of grunge. Grunge bands were artists, and most of those metal bands were artistes at best.
Again it's obviously all my opinion, certainly music is very subjective ^_^

Lol thanks, the Gits were really really amazing. Some of the most impassioned music i have ever heard. "Cut my skin it makes me human" o man ^_^

check out the original loung act, amazing lyrics, it's not letting me embed for some reason so here is the link.

Grundge bands are what? artists? They cant even play the guitar or make great solos like metal bands. And look what your grundge bands have created today.....EMOS
And rap music is about bling and hos? so what? you dont like bling and hos?
No I respect women, and I love women. I think they should be treated as equals as opposed to objects. Im also not for gratuitous displays of wealth (bling) when people are starving in the world and dieing of preventable and curable diseases.
And yes, most grunge bands were artists as in they had a message, they weren?t just singing for money and fame. As opposed to many (not all) metal bands of the era who were artistEs i.e. entertainers doing it simply for fame and fortune. I like my music to be real and have a message but that?s just me.
As far as this Emo stuff I have no idea what your talking about. Firstly, I don't like to stereotype, secondly since when did grunge lead to emo....pop punk lead to "emo" if anything, and pop punk and emo are pretty much the antithesis of grunge.
We are all entitled to our opinions, but I just like my Grunge/Punk/Alternative/Rap etc. to discuss the issues of the time, insted of singing about having fun and subjugating women.

It's called variety, I listen to grunge and metal. They can't even play guitar? It's a totally different style, Jerry Cantrell from AiC is a sick guitarist, and yes he did solos.

Bling and hos was cool about 30,000 songs ago most rap is the same stuff regurgitated over and over again, bling and hos has gotten monotonous and stale over time and I don't think I need to say what the Rap culture has created.
