Is a 405 deadlift with straps but no belt impressive?

    At 185 pounds?

Is it impressive or do the straps need to go?

yeah its impressively stupid to not.. use a belt.. a belt isnt a cheat, its what helps u not fk ur back up.... anyhow if u can lift 405 its impressive, but it would be more impressive with no STRAPS.. since it shows if ur grip can handle the weight...

To be honest, I don't like using a belt. It feels weird.

I only use one on squats.

i just need one that can protect my lower back ( dun care if it helps my lift), the injury i mentioned in that other thread is a lower back muscle pull from rugb, so my lower back is kinda iffy right now

a belt is just something used to keep ur back nice and tight so when ur lifting something heavy that requires lower back movement u dont strain or mess up ur back, it in no ways gives u strength gains or anything

I definitely get a better lift, at least 15% extra on my 1RM. It just feels weird, like I said.

Using the valsalva maneuver is good enough stability.

Fair enough. Imagine the pwoer you can get from using both? I train all summer during the off-season without a belt, I would definitely suggest using it during your harder training days though. Typically around 85%-90% and over your 1rm, I'd say throw it on.

Well I am on Rippetoes. Should I use a belt for 1x5?

Thanks for your advice, btw. And damn, nice stats.
