Yeah but the definition of a successful sport isnt the fact that girls are "into it". Im sure many girls like the men competing in the natural shows, and even some of the lighter pros in the IFBB, just not the mass freaks.

I'm talking popularity.

What do you say to a post like this? Lets have it guys... how many of you do what you do to get hot girls in the sack? I'll admit I STARTED bodybuilding with that in mind but it doesn't have a thing to do with it today.

Furthermore, I like that women aren't "into" bodybuilding. Now I can have my own sport that hasn't been infiltrated on every level by the opposite sex. something that I can call my own!

This sport has be "infiltrated" by females but the problem is you have people talking about bodybuilding not being popular and wanting it to grow, and it just won't happen with it the way it is now.

Well I stand corrected. I have no clue who I was thinking of then. I thought it was munzer but hey I am a big boy and can admit I got it wrong.

There was a contest Mentzer competed in where he, unknowingly, ingested a huge sum of sodium the night prior -- he talks about it in his book "Heavy Duty Journal." He was bloated as a result. You probably just saw the photos of it.

Ordinarily his abs were fine.

Vascularity doesn't make you a good bodybuilder. Anyways, I think he's qualified for the Olympia before so yeah he's one of the best in the world. However, he doesn't fit the mold of aesthetics. He thus has to bring in great muscularity and conditioning, which he does.

Judging a physique and building one are two different things. Again, like so many people have pointed out, the Olympia judges don't look like the competitors yet they judge them.

It's absurd to think that you have to look better than a competitor to judge their physique. That's like saying you have to be a great musician to properly appreciate music or that you have to be a great chef to say whether you like the way a food tastes or not, or you have to be a cobbler to say if a certain pair of shoes are comfortable, lol.

I think (I stress THINK) Arnie once wrote about this in his encyclopedia-something along the lines that Mentzer was dissapointed with the pre-judging at one 'O' (think it was 1980 surprise surprise lol) and that in the interim before the the evening show he downed a fair few cans of coke thus bloating him out a bit.

At least thats what I can remember of it-hopefully someone can back it up. I severely doubt that Mentzer had any sort of gut so this story kinda makes some sense to that claim of 'reletive to his time'.
