Eating out
I'm very new at this...Help will be greatly appreciated. My boyfriend and his family like to eat out alot at restuarants. I have recently decided to be dedicated in trying to get in shape. What are some ways to eat healthy when you eat out alot - what foods to eat, etc. Thank you so much for any help

Most restaurants, especially the big chains, have their menu and nutrition information on their website. Check that before you go out and pick something that's appropriate for your diet.

You can get grilled chicken and steamed veggies almost anywhere. If they lather the chicken in oil/butter, ask them not to.

I know I'm not helping, but just don't go out as much . It's cheaper and easier to stick to a diet when you aren't tempted going out and seeing all that delicious food!

Just try to get a meal that has good stuff in it. Like meals served with vegetables or other sources of fiber/nutrients. And limit your portions of calorically dense food (which is most restaurant food).

Almost anything at a restaurant can be ok as long as you tell them to make it your way. For example ask them to grill it and hold the sauce. Don't be afraid to change the menu per say

Anytime I go out I just tell them to make all my food dry. No oils, butter, not even any seasonings. Always chicken & vegetables. Tastes like hell because they don't add anything but at least this way I know that they didn't add a bunch of stuff I don't want to it. I just ask for some hot sauce or tobasco and pepper.

It depends on the restaurant, but you can usually get grilled chicken over a salad and choose oil and vinegar, or go without dressing, depending on your diet. If you eat carbs, look for brown rice or yams/potatoes without butter. I usually get fish and specify no oil, butter, sauce or seasoning, with a side of plain, steamed spinach or broccoli.

Why even bother eating their food? Why not just bring a sack of oats with you?

Tip: don't eat out.
Not only will you waste a lot of money but you will gain a lot of fat, too. Sometimes it's just impossible to watch what you order/eat, especially if you're hungry.
Take my word. Did this for 2 years. Both me and my then girlfriend gained 40 pounds.

Is it bad that this thread wasn't what I expected?
But yeah, eating out generally isn't a good idea, even when you stick to the basics like grilled chicken, fish, steak, veggies..etc. only because you have no idea what your seemingly healthy entree was cooked in or how it was prepared. I still do it though far too often =(.

I generally order a nicoise salad to be safe, asking for the vinagrette on the side.
