    squat every other day?

taking a break from the 3 day split routine i wanted to try a variation of the rippetoe routine by doing a 2 day split with squat/bench/military on the first day and squat/row/deadlift on the 2nd day. my only problem is that this routine means that i have to squat every other day and it almost seems impossible for me. i squatted for the first 2 workouts with no problem but the next workout, my legs just hadn't recovered from the 2nd workout. how do you guys do it? does it take time to get used to?

You will eventually be able to handle it. Technically you are only supposed to do it something like M/W/F with the weekend being off. If you continue to have problems after a couple weeks, try and go light on Wednesdays for the Squats.

It mostly depends on your body. 48-72 hours should be fine for your body. You might adapt to the stress but I dont know. A full weekend rest should be good. IF your going no where and are constantly soar - stop. I would do a heavy squat day, then a speed then ext time. Then next week, heavy DL day then speed DL.

Rotate between light, medium and heavy squats somewhat like madcows 5x5 if you can't handle it.

i broke up the rippetoes so that i squat every third day (so two days rest )...still squat 3 times a week!
that has been working well for me as i have been consistently adding 5lbs a week.

i justify the extra days with the fact at 45years old my recuperative ability is a little slower than it used to be!

Today i did about 4 sets of 235 on the Cambered bar. Then i did 4x8 of leg presses at 340ish. Then 2 sets of leg extensions at 120ish. Rested a bit and hit the free squats with a purple and green band on each side, +45lb bar + 70 lb in weight.

If you squat as heavy as possible you should not be able to do it more at MOST twice a week.
