    1 Cup Rolled Oats = ??? grams

All these websites I'm reading are showing that 1 cup of rolled oats equals roughly 90 grams.

However I constantly keep coming up with 115grams for 1 cup of rolled oats.

Anyone know if for sure how many grams there are in 1 cup of rolled oats.

    Thanks

you have to weigh the empty measuring cup on the scale first. remember this number.

fill the cup level with oats.

weigh again and subtract your first number.

Anyway, I've been using Quaker rolled oats but I bought a big container of PC rolled oats (exactly the same as quaker, but more bang for the buck) and they have different calories:

    PC rolled oats:
    1/2 cup - 40 grams
    150 calories

    Quaker rolled oats:
    1/3 cup - 30 grams
    120 calories

    Wut? They're the same oat.
Train insane, or remain the same. No hype necessary.

because the serving size is different...they are practically the same if you have the same amount of grams.

Whatever your scales say, is correct if you've crossed checked.

Just may mean that the oats you're eating aren't organic or organic oats just got better. They may be more dense with added compounds to speed up the growing process. They may not all be the same weight.

    Forget volume. It's not accurate.

For one, they round the volume to amounts that are easily seen by the naked eye (1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, etc) instead of giving exact values (17/23 cup, for example).

For two, how tightly packed your food is will affect it's volume. You can compress oats to squeeze more into a given volume.

Forget volume. Use the mass (i.e. 40 grams). That's accurate. Get a scale and weigh the food.
