Obviously you'd want the fresh meat sliced from the grocery store deli, but i was curious as to what the difference was between that and, say, oscar myer pre-sliced deli meat. I understand there is a lot of sodium in the pre-sliced stuff, but what other differences are there? Is the pre-sliced stuff poorer quailty because of it being processed made of many different cuts of the meat? because the pre-sliced stuff is still low in fat and high in protein.
reason i'm asking : sometimes the deli meat is expensive and the pre-sliced stuff is most of the time, on sale. Just curious if the quality of meat is worse.
this is a serious question.. i'm really into bodybuilding, i'm not a 124lb newbie who is constantly worrying about simple, non-important things, i'm just curious about this

Fresher is better. The pre-sliced is generally much higher in soidum (10% or more of your daily intake per ounce), processed (preservatives), and often has added sugar. I have found the cheapest best source of protein to be chicken. I buy big frozen bags of tyson breasts or get a family pack (3lbs or ore) when its on sale at the grocery store(1.99/lb). Then I cook 5-6 breasts at a time seasoned up differently and cuse them in sandwiches or with sides and it never feels like it gets old. It is cheaper and helahtier than deli meats.

How do I figure? Wtf it's the exact same cuts of meat, processed the exact same way, loaded with the exact same sodium and preservatives, shipped from the same manufacturers. The only difference is it's being sliced in front of you, that does not make it "fresh".
Take a look at the deli counter, if they have some of the meats still in the package they say Schneiders, Oscar Meyer, and whatever other names I can't think of right now.
