Question HIIT- help

I do the elliptical for 30 minutes and work either my upper body or lower body for about 15 minutes.[upper bosy oneday lower bosy the next]. [monday-friday]

I want to start HIIT- and I love the elliptical so kind of wanted to do it on there- has anyone else done this? I warm up at intensity of 3 then I have the intensity set on about 6 - [I think it goes to 25 but not sure] and leave it there for mostly all of my workout- until cooldown- how would you go about setting the intensity- and for how long of intervals or would you just leave it and go faster or slower? I'm confused about HIIT! So any help or advice you have to give is appreciated! Thanks so much!

you can do intervals with nearly anything. I always preferred to do it on the exercise bikes.

You will probably only need about a 20 minute session at most. I'd say do your standard warm up, then pick a resistance level of like 8-10, and do that for 1 minute. Then have the interval setting to like a resistance level of 3-5, and do that for 2 minutes. After 5-6 full intervals, do the cooldown, and you should be good.

When I personally did HIIT on the bike, I would do something like this (although their crazy machine had 2 minutes for higher resistance and lower resistance), and I would shove the rpms up to 105-110 on the resistance 8, and would drop to 80-85 on the resistance 4.

I do my HIIT on the eliptical. I'm usually panting close to death after the fifth minute, so I'm guessing I'm doing it right.

I pick a high resistance and do 60 RPM for 30 seconds, then 130-150 RPM for the other 30. Rinse and repeat until you think you're going to die.
