8.1% @ 7 weeks out
I am currently preparing for my first show, the East Tennessee Bodybuilding and Sports expo in Knoxville. I went into the gym today and met with my coach and had my body fat tested. It came back at 8.1%. He did it, 3 times to make sure the results were consistent each time and they were. My weight is at 229. My question is do these #'s seems to be on pace with me @ 7 weeks out?
Thanks for any feedback!

seems good! do the math... take you bf from your weight, to find out what your lean muscle mass weight is. then if you can get down around your muscle mass weight by only loosing 2 pounds per week then your perfect! thats how i find out how many weeks i need to diet!

Body fat testing is useless from the standpoint of determining whether you're ready or not.
Look in the mirror and ask yourself if you LOOK like you're on pace - that's what matters.

Keep It Up
I too am on the road to my first show. I am doing an NANBF show in Minnesota in October. I am like you wondering about BF% and being on track. It is mental gymnastics at times. I am at 10.5%, and I am using that as just a gauge to make sure that the BF% is going in the right direction and relying more on looks. Funny thing reading your post I am from Knoxville and was looking two nights ago to see when the shows in Knoxville were to see if there was one around Christmas when I will coming in to visit family for a couple of weeks. Good luck!

In all honesty, the mirror will help you the most... I can't remember when I vas ever asked my bf% the day of a comp... however if you feel the need to measure have it done by the same person, at the same time, at the same points, under the same circumstances, a week apart. .75% to 1% is feesible (sp) at least it was for me... Good luck!!!

Well, I hope I am at 8% with seven weeks to go. Seems like thats pretty lean with a good chunk of time left. You could lop off another 12 or 14 lbs of fat in that span.

Bodyfat % testing is only helpful to a degree. Posing practice/picture comparisons to see where definition is coming in will be your best bet. If going by bodyfat testing, keep in mind that a bodyfat test only tests what it says... the % of your body made up of fat, there is a %error to be accounted for as well and the LBM you are left with once bodyfat is taken out will be maded up of everything else. You'll lose waterweight as well which is going to help you look more shredded. There are a ton of things to look at but a BF of 8% at 7 weeks out should be good for you. Keep strict to your diet and you'll be fine. I myself am a hair over 8 weeks out at 7%
