Good Luck with Thailand man, I been their twice. If you train for anything longer then 6 months your striking will f**&ing pheonenal. Just dont stay in Phuket your whole time. Tiger is a dope camp, big but very cool, Will is a good guy. I also trained at J prapa Kitisak (spelling). Jomhod trains their and you will spar him everyday. J prapa is good as it is in Kata ( Best Beach) but the training is only 1x a day.
Good Luck with your training and Bar girls

It was actually pretty good while I was there. It was very grappling oriented. One of the owners, Jay Motard, is a sambo specialist so grappling is what he's best at. I think recently they've been focusing a lot more on striking. They got one of the muay thai coaches from carvers there now and last I heard, Alain from contender asia was training there. Not too sure if he still does or not though.
It's just a lot different training in Canada than it is here in Thailand. Here it's pretty much all personal training while at the gyms in Canada, the padholders are just your fellow students in the class. It just isn't the same at all.
A few friends of mine train at OAMA and they all have nothing but positive things to say about it. If I was to come back to Ottawa (I really just want to stay here forever.. lol), I'd prob. check it out.www.FightPassport.com

Updates!
Alright guys, Update time ..
Where I left off, I had just touchdown in bangkok. Since then, I've done about 3 more entries in my journal.
First entry (Crazy Pattaya)
View Here = http://fightpassport.com/?p=117
Basically talks about how insane this place is. If you've never heard of Pattaya, just know that askmen.com ranked it as the number 1 "sin city" in the world. I also got myself to Scorpion gym to check things out ..
Here's a video of the place..

And here's a random video I shot of one of the hot thai girls dancing next to a huge, fat, ugly white broad..

Second entry (Got Robbed!)
View Here = http://fightpassport.com/?p=120
Yeah, I got robbed! Pick-pocketed. Lost about 1800 baht which is almost 60 bucks..
I also got a chance to go and check out the International Muay Thai club ..
Took a couple vids of the place ..

** does anyone know how I can put the videos in here directly instead of just providing the links? **www.FightPassport.com

May want to keep your wallet in your front pocket. Then you only have to worry about ladyboys pick-pocketing you.

That sucks man, I was pretty lucky, I spent a year in SE Asia and was never pickpocketed. I bought a coupe of pairs of cargo shorts with a zipper side pocket and kept my wallet in there. I actually bought one of those little zip purse/hippie wallet you see for sale everywhere and just kept some cash, my bank card and a credit card in it and left everything else in the safe at the hotel.

Hey man, to embedd youtube links, cut and paste the last bit of the youtube address, after the equals sign, between ["youtube"] and ["/youtube"] (ignore the quotation marks)
for example, your first link would become:
["youtube"]7jBbU7bXi6c["/youtube"] (again, ignore the quotation marks)
hope that makes sense. Good luck man, sounds great so far!

I liked training in Koh Phangan honestly. I also liked training in Chiang Rai.
Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Samui are just too big and too full of people. Everything is catered to tourists. Fairtex is by far the worst about it. They're also overpriced. And every white person I saw from Fairtex had their first fight against a complete can if they stepped in the ring. I'm talking can of cans. It was actually embarassing to watch these dudes fight. You'd think that fighting someone who wants to knock your head off is more rewarding but whatever. I've spent some time in Chiang Mai but never trained there. I like the city though so I might give some camps up there a check next time I head back.

I trained for about 2 weeks at Horizon in Koh Phangan and loved it. Well, it was actually just around the corner from Haad Rinn on a beach called Haad Yuan. I was on vacation but decided to do a 2 week detox lol. It was awesome.
I'm heading back to SE Asia in June next year probably and want to get up north as well. Have you heard anything about the camps in Chiang Mai?"Don't count the days, make every day count"

Haha, Horizon you say? I trained at Jungle Gym so Horizon was the arch nemesis. As a matter of fact, my friend beat the thai trainer from Horizon (Ek was his name I believe) and the judges gave the victory to Ek even though the ref stopped the fight because he was bleeding so bad.
Anyway, a brawl started in the stands and Ek punched a lady square in the face. His corner then threatened to kill our entire team and armed themselves with bottles and knives. It wasn't a pretty site. We hopped on our motorbikes and got the **** out while the police were rolling in. I could barely walk because I just fought a half hour before then but I sure as **** got out of that mess as quick as I could.
Moral of the story : Good times, **** Horizon, not really but **** it anyway.

I trained at Chay Yai in Chiang Mai and liked it there. At the time they had a Brazilian Top Team BJJ Brown belt teaching bjj, but he's gone now.
I don't have much else to compare it to yet.
There is also Lanna (most popular camp in Chiang Mai, that Sean Wright from Contender: Asia fights out of) and Siam Number 1.
If you want to get off the beaten track, go to Truebee Gym in Pai (bus ride outside of Chiang Mai). Quiet little town in the mountains, but it still has a jazz music scene. I got to train with Bee when he came to Chay Yai and he's an excellent trainer who also speaks English. Lumpini champ in his early 20's, and he recently retired and is still probably younger than 30.

Yeah, the gym was in Haad Rinn. There is also another one in Thong Sala but it's only open part of the year. It's not bad in Haad Rinn though, they even had weights in there to use and other decent stuff.
Ha, that would have been a possibility but Ek actually knew the lady. She was in charge of the gym in Haad Rinn and I guess they have a long history. The thing about Koh Phangan is that a mafia family runs the entire island so there is a lot of weird behind the scenes **** going on. Crazy place. What a hit though, lol.
Chiang Rai muay thai academy. The website seems to be down at the moment. It's not the typical muay thai camp. It's in a giant compound owned by a Japanese guy. They teach the local kids muay thai so there are hardly any foreigners there. Hell, there are hardly any foreigners in Chiang Rai at all unless they're heading out to do some backpacking. Small city, friendly people, very nice. The instructor is cool, short little ****er but he was a champ in Bangkok back in the day. They put on some decent fights too.
My friend went to Siam Number 1 for 9 months. He ended up fighting 6 times for them. Of all the camps he went to, he said the instruction there was the best. He said the owner was a bit of a shady mother****er but the training was worth it. It's off the beaten path for sure though.

TrueBee Gym is on my list of camps to visit for sure. I think I'll head that way near the end of my journey.
I finished up an entry late last night on the cost of living and training in Thailand ..

There are ATM's everywhere.
I had both my credit card and check card stolen. I just called my bank and reported it stolen. My credit card had about 300 dollars charged to it at a store in Bangkok as it was stolen by someone doing baggage handling at the airport. Never put the cards in your carry on, keep them in your pocket. If you use visa, they will ship you a new card free for the first time that particular card is stolen. After that, you're going to need someone in the states to pick one up and ship to you. Visa also gets rid of charges from a stolen credit card in most cases too. Just check with visa and/or your bank before you leave.

Pretty much what ranger said, there's ATM'S everywhere here so I just use those. If someone stole my bank card, I'd be screwed until I got a replacement sent to me. I never carry it around when I go out. If I had, that night I got robbed, my bank card would have gone missing too. I keep my passport, credit cards and bank card locked in my in-room safe at all times and I just carry my cash in my front pocket without a wallet.
