It was 1989, my thoughts were short my hair was long
Caught somewhere between a boy and man
She was seventeen and she was far from in-between
It was summertime in Northern Michigan
Ahh Ahh Ahh
Ahh Ahh Ahh
Splashing through the sand bar
Talking by the campfire
It's the simple things in life, like when and where
We didn't have no internet
But man I never will forget
The way the moonlight shined upon her hair
[Chorus:]
And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing Sweet home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet home Alabama all summer long
Catching Walleye from the dock
Watching the waves roll off the rocks
She'll forever hold a spot inside my soul
We'd blister in the sun
We couldn't wait for night to come
To hit that sand and play some rock and roll
While we were trying different things
And we were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Now nothing seems as strange as when the leaves began to change
Or how we thought those days would never end
Sometimes I'll hear that song and I'll start to sing along
And think man I'd love to see that girl again
[Repeat Chorus x2]
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
AWESOME SONG, got the summer feel to it

Honestly, it's because it sounds like two awesome classics. That's the only reason why. His lyrical abilities are lacking, and apparently so are his musical ones too.
Edit: Oh ya, and I forgot (this one I'm stealing):
"We didn't have no internet
But man I never will forget
The way the moonlight shined upon her hair"
I DO record all my memories on the internet too! What a coincidence! My parents probably don't remember anything pre-internet either.

I liked it when I heard it on the radio, before I knew it was "borrowed" and by Kid Rock. Still a good pick up song, I did realize the SHA music though.

Anyone who likes him can be a moron, I'll forgive the people that like the song though because he samples (see: completely uses) good songs.

Get your little peckers out of your skinny asses. Do y'all happen to listen to Panic At The Disco by any chance? You sound like it. I listen to more old rock...Zeppelin, AC/DC, Rush, Cream, GNR, Ratt, Fleetwood Mac, Black Sabbath, etc, etc...and I love Kid Rock. My cousin, Artimus Pyle...look that name up, was the drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd, and he loves this song. I don't see what y'all are bitching about, maybe it's that time of the month again...or maybe it's the fact that I'm so open minded.

Yeah right. Worst one you've heard? Do you live under a rock? What kind of music do you listen to? I can name off countless numbers of songs that were written way worse than this.
Maybe it's just my background and I can relate to the lyrics...IDK.

strong name drop
but, if your cousin has any publishing rights, shouldn't he love the song?

Dont think this song was written to be the next 'candle in the wind' (no homo) or anything like that; i think he just wrote a fun song people will like. Saw him and rev run about 2 months ago, it was a really good show!

He does indeed have rights to all the songs that Skynyrd released...what I'm saying is, he could either love or hate this little "rip-off," I guess you could call it, of Sweet Home Alabama. That doesn't happen very often, but it's possible. Although, Kid Rock did have to get permission to use the original music.
Anyways, the only thing I was originally saying was, I don't see why people have to be so picky and worry about something that doesn't matter. The song has good rhythym, I like the lyrics, I don't see what the problem is. But, as I said before, I'm real open-minded and I'll listen to just about anything.

Not only does that song suck, but Kid Rock thinks he can just go from a washed up rock artist to a country singer and be accepted? nah.. he should just quit, especially since that song is TERRIBLE, at best.

All in all, it's alright.
I tend to think Kid Rock isn't that bad, I mean he isn't the best, isn't the worst. But he has some alright music, which a lot of has a point.
And he can sing alright, with the crap comming out these days we should be glad he is still about. It's best than most rap and it is better than anything where the people scream and shout and do not sing.
