Just saw this cage up on craigslist. Not much detail.

It's pretty cheap but I don't recognize the brand or model. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the way it is built, it will be hard to use with most benches
no holes on the rear posts to hold pins, and most benches will not fit inside in reverse, so you won't be able to use the safety bars when pressing
i would hold out for a better rack....designed as poorly as it is, it probably has a very low load limithttp://www.missingkids.com/cybertip/

I think its a Weider. I've had two recently that looked a lot like that. Sold both quickly.
One had the same design, with no holes in rear. You could put the bar holders on the back of the front posts to press. This would allow you to use the safety bars.
Would certainly have to get used to pulling & racking the bar in the opposite direction though.

Ya know, this thread reminds of the dude yesterday wanting to spend $120-200 on the crappiest of benches.
This is exactly what I was talking about. You can get something like this off of CL. Find a set of plates for a hundred or less & boom you've spent your $200 and you have a full rack, lat pd, and weights. Plus, you can probably sell that for a hundo when its time to upgrade.
Hey brah, if you're out there, this was all I was trying to tell you.
I know...its used.

I can see where moving parts whether cheap pulleys, axles or welds can break, but I don't see the actual rack or sabers breaking... yes of course it could be more 'wobbly' than a bigger/stronger rack, but I also took into account that he is a self professed beginner and not lifting near the weight that you might be... and ya have to give him credit for shopping for a rack vs. a Gold's Gym bench

It looks like it's called the Club Weider 540. So, kudos to HardKore for guessing Weider. Here are some other pics:

And here is another thread on another forum reviewing it:
http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/s...ead.php?t=8832
210 lbs max on the cage and 130 lbs max on the pulley according to the user manual attached in the thread. As a beginner/skinny weakling, I'm nowhere near those limits, so I could get some use out of it.
This whole thread might be moot anyway since I haven't received any reply since I emailed the guy before I created this thread. Oh well.

Don't worry about it!!! Another deal will come by and you'll be glad you waited! Trust me on that!
To tell you the truth, just hearing Weider, makes me throw up, since I had one of their benches when I first started out and I'm glad I'm still alive! What a piece of .... that was?![]---[] Equipment Crew Member No.2

LOL 210 max ? Meaning you dont plan to bench or squat more than 210 ?
If you work out seriously for 6 months or so Im pretty sure you can hit that for reps on the squat and probably bench, within a year at least.
But Im pretty sure just my looking at it, its more than 210#, probably rated over 500# or something...
For only $100 thought Id get this rack for sure, you could sell it for a 100 and not loose anything, if you waited this long its probably already gone.

No brain, no gain.

yeah i tend to forget that beginner part.....i guess if he has a drill handy and is skilled using it he could modify it to be useful(if he lacks the skill, he will most likely drill some very ugly holes)
edit:just saw the above post sayin how useless the lat tower is...idk...needs to modify it and u cant even count the lat tower...id still passLast edited by V5RED; 07-24-2008 at 06:42 AM.

Hey guys, she emailed me back this morning and I have first dibs on it. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on it and if I happen to exceed the weight limits after 6 months of hard training then I'll sell it for $100 and upgrade. Meanwhile, I'll keep refreshing CL like you guys tell me to, waiting for a better rack but still making progress on my Weider. Seriously, I probably won't even use my 45lb plates at first, that's how weak I am now.
It's okay that the lat is unusable. I don't need it for squats, bench, deads, presses or rows which will be my life for a while. I could use a second bar for dips though.

That is exactly what I think. I have used cheap Walmart benches my whole life and have benched as much as 375lbs on them and never had a problem.
I know have a C650 I think its a Weider?...I do heavy shrugs on it and have benched 375lbs on it. Do they have their limits? Sure, but im not going heavy enough to max it out.
Matter of fact im using my old olympic bench I bought from walmart as the FID bench for my rack...I just cut it up and mad it narrow and took off the uprights.
Im sooooo cool..

Well, I have a different mentality on that. If I buy a gun that is well made like an HK(yeah, I know), I'm not buying it to save money but to save my own life in danger. Cheap guns jam quite frequently and I just can't afford to take a chance on my own life. Same mentality goes for fitness equipment in my book!
