Go Big or Go Home
Ok, I'm starting another journal, hopefully I'll keep this one updated. Basically I'm more of a powerlifter then a bodybuilder, but I'm somehwere in between. My current workouts are based loosely on Madcow's Intermediate 5x5, with some set and rep changes based on works for me, total body 3 times a week focusing on the Big 3 lifts. I'm eating around 2200 cal's w/ 220 grams of protein a day, trying to shed some excess fat.
Here's last night's workout.
Bench pyramid 5x5 with the top set 295x5(New PR)
Squat pyramid 5x5 with top set 305x4 <--still working on rehabbing my back(minor inj) so the progress is slow
Rows pyramid 5x5 with top set 195x5

I'll give you an example:
Fri-
Bench
135x8
225x3
255x3
275x3
305x3
225x11
Mon-
Bench-
135x8
225x5
245x5
265x5
295x5
225x10
on the last set I go for as many reps as possible. When I did the original version Madcow I plateau'd at 280x5 and I couldn't get 285x5. Since I've started going heavier with lower reps on Friday's I've hit every set/rep on Monday's. Next week's the real test, 300x5. Every week the 2nd to last set increases by 5lbs if I got all the reps the previous week.

I see that is interesting. I may try something like this. My chiropractor won't let me squat though

That sucks. My back was jacked up for a few weeks so I stopped DL'g completely and squatted LIGHT. Now I've upped the weight a little and it still feels good. I used to never squat or DL but now I'd go nuts if I couldn't.

Squats are not my friend lately. For the last 2 weeks my legs have been wicked sore (yes, I said wicked - I lived in New England too long) for 4 - 5 days. They aren't too sore this week so far, but sore enough.

Wifey is definately feeling the pain of squats...so much so that it's affecting happy time.

I have the opposite problem I can't ever get bigger in the chest. My back responds well though. Thanks though.

it doesn't stop her, just limits positions and such...but if it gets worse then it's off to the leg press for her

My chest and shoulders grow like crazy, so much that getting shirts/suit coats to fit is a pain in the ass. But my back gets stronger, but doesn't seem to get wider. But my bent rows are pretty weak compared to my other lifts as well.

Do you do Chins/pullups? Those are the key in my opinion. I have same problem my shoulders are too wide. I thought it was cool at first not being able to buy off the rack, now it is just a pain.

I do wide grip pullups. But it's a slow process. Last week it was 7/6/5/4/3 with just bodyweight. being a fat ass doesn't help the PU's.

I have the same problem. I was up to about 12 on my first set last time I had them in the rotation. Being a fat ass makes it unecessary to have those plates hanging off of you.
