there have been reports of Gatlin running 4.1 and 3.9 but I am sticking with 3.9 I know I may get bashed for this but think about it
I'm not good at math but...
100 yards= 300 feet
100 meters= roughly 330 feet
40 yards= 120 feet
40 meters= roughly 132 feet
that would mean that since Gatlin runs a high 9.7 100 meter
that in 4.1 seconds he would run 120 feet and would have to run the other 210 feet in 5.6 seconds... which I believe is nearly impossible that would be a 5.6 70 yard dash.... and even though most sprinters have great top end speed I just dont see that happening...
if he ran a 3.8-3.9
that would mean he would have about 6.0 seconds to finish the remaning 210 feet which is still blazing... and for those that dont think thats a difference that is the difference between
5.1 and a 4.7
or a Deangelo Hall 4.15 and a very fast linebacker who runs 4.55Last edited by NueveUno; 01-15-2007 at 04:44 PM.

yea I hate that statement... its unfair to say that.. who knows he may have used performance enhancers but sometimes they can be faulted who knows? nobody will ever know... there are plenty of athletes who are heros who will never be caught using those drugs and they probably do them frequently... its part of the game now... those who get caught probably did do it but I never testify upon it because you NEVER know or will never know... I'm sure alot of heros have used them and never been caught... besides I dont care... steroids or not... his genetics made him that fast not those steroids because I'm sure there have been other sprinters against him using those drugs and still not as fast... I could take those drugs, and I have great genetics for being fast and I could never run that fast period

Do you know that alot of recruits dont attend combines so they claim from there HS Coach there 40 yard dash.. and if the recruiter gets the info from the HS Coach he uses that as legit info as an estimate to the player's speed... so no handheld times arent worthless unless you have a laser available.. and no because reggie bush ran a 4.28 or so at his pro day and I believe that was laser... either way not many on this board are running 4.2s or anywhere near it

Yes I know that I'm a scholarship D2 football player. And it's hilarious the times I see claimed on here, countless times faster than all but a couple people on my team.
I've seen more claimed 4.4s-4.6s than I could count, funny how AJ Hawk ran in that range didn't he? But hey, maybe this board really does have people as fast as the top graduating linebacker in recent history.
Then again, the average squat around here is in the 400's, so maybe we're just privelidged to a rediculous amount of the strongest/most athletic teenages in the country."Live like a bad son of a bitch and let's play some ball"

first off I never knew a 4.6 was blazing... and if your trying to say that my 40 is not legit... I could care less, because not only have I ran in the range I stated I run in that range everytime I run 40s which is about once a week 3-4 times.... A.J. Hawk didnt have blazing speed... just good reactions, and quickness THERE IS A DIFFERENCE... serioulsy dude, you are acting like A.J. Hawk is Mike Vick... he wasnt even one of the fastest LBs in the draft...

This is from wikipedia
"Many reported times are unreliable due to differences in timing methods if not intentional falsifications. The fastest time officially recorded by the NFL was 4.29 seconds by Deion Sanders in 1989 [1], although the NFL did not begin electronic timing until 1990. In the electronic timing era, the fastest recorded time at the NFL Combine was 4.31 seconds by cornerbacks Fabian Washington, Chris McKenzie, Carlos Rogers, and Darrent Williams in 2005.[2] Most other times close to 4.0 are untrustworthy due to the use of hand timing, but it is often claimed that players including Sanders (4.17)[3], Ted Ginn Jr. (4.06)[4], DeAngelo Hall (4.15)[5][6], Michael Vick (4.25)[7], Bo Jackson (4.12)[8], Michael Bennett (4.13)[9], Randy Moss (4.25)[10], Darrell Green (4.15[11], 4.2[12]), Laveranues Coles (4.2)[13], and Alexander Wright (4.09)[14] have approached that mark. The absolute fastest time has likely not been run by a football player but by a sprinter in track and field. Although 40 yards is never run, the 60 meter dash is a well-regulated track and field distance, the official record for which is 6.39 seconds by Maurice Greene. Tapes of sprinter Ben Johnson's world-record breaking 1988 100 meter dash (which was later annulled due to Johnson's steroid use), however, show that Johnson ran the 60 m in 6.37 seconds; this is considered the most quickly started race ever run.[15] Nonetheless, Johnson "only" covered the first 40 yards in 4.38 seconds. It is highly doubtful that any football player could run 40 yards faster than a world-class sprinter in spikes on a track, casting doubts on many claimed 40 yard times.
However, in track and field races, the runner must react to the starting gun, which can take 0.2-0.3 seconds. For electronically timed 40 yard dashes, the runner is allowed to start when he wishes, which automatically triggers the clock. This difference would indicate that, at peak form, Johnson more likely ran the 40 yard dash in 4.08-4.18 seconds, making claims in the 4.2-range more credible."
Notice a trend? Both Johnson and Gatlin caught with steroids.Last edited by Ibanez; 01-15-2007 at 06:43 PM.

Why? I don't understand.
Michael Johnson (the fastest over 200 and 400 ever) only ran the 100m in 10.13 secs. That is still really good but indicates that his short distance speed/ accel wasn't close to his longer distance. I think he would have run a 4.4 - but no way would he have run a 3.5.
RE: steroids issue.
There was a bulgarian sprinter caught ~ 6months ago for steroid use. PB about 10.3.
Ben Johnson was massively talented.
PS: All the 40 times are massively overinflated.

Yes but allong with this many of the college combines are lazer timed. So dont diss what you dont know.
Also there is no events for sprinters at 40 meters. THis is the universal speed mesurement of football players because it is a good indicator for explosiveness. Sprinters do not train for the same events so you will find many football players who have quicker 40 times. This was all explained to me by one of the best HS track coaches in NY state.Last edited by Sueypaintballer; 01-16-2007 at 03:43 PM.
