Confused about bread
Hi ladies (and guys )
I'm starting to get really confused about the whole "bread" issue. I keep reading conflicting stories about it.
I've always thought bread was OK, as long as you ate the stone ground whole wheat type (with 3-5 grams of fiber per slice?) and not the 'enriched' processed stuff. But lately, I have been reading several posts that say to stay away from bread completely?
In the latest issue of Oxygen, a lot of the meal suggestions they gave included whole wheat english muffins etc?
Any advice/insight would be very much appreciated

I really don't eat much bread. When I do, I usually only have one slice of Ezikiel Bread. This stuff is great and is a live food, which is very good for you.
My starchy carbs usually come from brown rice or red pototoes.

Thank you!
Wow, I googled it (Ezikiel Bread.) and read more about it. Sounds awesome. Do standard grocery stores sell it or do I need to go to a health food store?

I buy it at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. I've never found it in a standard grocery store, so you might want to call around and see if your local health food store carries it.
There is NO saturated fat in this bread, nor is there any chemicals, additives or preservatives. I keep the bread frozen and toast it lightly (tastes better toasted).

Great thank you! I'll try toasting/freezing it when I get some.
I already have the bread printed out and it's on my husbands 'honey-do' list I'll have him try Trader Joe's...maybe he can find Greek Yogurt for me there too

Most breads, even the whole grain ones have high fructose corn syrup somewhere in the ingredients or some form of sugar.
The Multi-Grain Light Thomas English Muffins are not a bad choice but I recommend you eat them in the morning or around your workouts.
Also pepperidge farms carb style breads are strictly grain.
I have tried a few times to make bread with rice flour and a bean flour. They always come out like a brick.
I like bread and don't want to cut it out of my diet, but there are a few things I refuse to eat for healthy reasons and processed sugar is on of them. So I am just picky about what is IN the bread, just be a savvy shopper and eat in moderation and you shouldn't have to cut bread out.

nothing is bad persay, its just the abuse of it thats bad in some people.
Therefore, bread is NOT bad if not abused of. One slice or 2, won't and hasn't killed anyone... Let's not be too "anal" about this. Everything in moderation I say...

Ezekiel Bread is usually in the refrigerated section, not the regular bread aisle. It's great, especially toasted!

Greek yogurt is my new favorite! They actually sell it our regular, plain ol' grocery store. I mixed some the other day w/splenda and dipped strawberries in it-yummm!
On the bread question-I realized I was eating way too many carbs (good kind so I thought it was ok) but they made me crave carbs/sweets! Since I cut back on the carbs I have had NO cravings I try to get my carbs from other sources.

Splenda?!! Oh yuck girl....try purchasing some Stevia at Whole Foods or health food store. Good old FDA won't approve it as a sweetener; so it has to be sold as a supplement. There is no chemicals in Stevia; (check it out on stevia.com) it's a plant that's 100 times sweeter than sugar. And it doesn't impact blood sugar - and you can cook/bake with it.

Good to hear you found the greek yogurt!! The stuff is great, isn't it?! Ha haa...hey, send hubby for some Stevia - if you use sugar, or any chemical sweeteners, you might want to think about switching your sweetener to Stevia.

Yeah...I really don't each much bread at all (besides an occasional slice of whole wheat). Instead I use these whole wheat wraps made by Tortilla Factory. They are soooo yummy and have only 50 calories, 2 or 3 grams of carbs and 7 grams of fiber! I buy mine from Walmart, but there the best wraps I've ever tasted and don't get soggy!
