They lost an average of just over 10lbs - in two years!??
Christ, that would mean that getting to my 220lb ultimate goal would take over 12 years....

Low-carb or not, it simply depends on the person as to whether it works or not. Part of that is if the person can implement and stick with it, and the other part is whether their body will respond to that kind of diet.
Some things I noticed about the article:
- 30% of your calories from fat is low fat? Maybe is just that keto has distorted my opinion of "low" but I don't think 30% of any total where there are three main factors is low
- "The low-carb diet set limits for carbohydrates but none for calories or fat. It urged dieters to choose vegetarian sources of fat and protein." Uuuhhh...like what?? Vegetarians notoriously have a hard time getting protein and I'm not exactly sure that soy stuff would have much fat. Someone can chime in and educate me on this though.
- "It suggests that because women have had more experience dieting or losing weight, they're more capable of implementing a more complicated diet," Does this 'more experience' correspond to less results previous to the study?
- 10.3 lbs over 2 years?? Time to get your training regimen in gear I think!

x2. One third of anything, where there are three factors, is definitely not low. Also - to only lose 10lbs over 2 years is strange... I'm hoping to lose 10lbs after 6 weeks! I bet they were just sitting on their ass watching Springer. It makes me laugh that it's an average weight loss - so a percentage of people lost much less than 10.3lbs!
On the veggie thing - Soy/Quorn/Tofu has plenty of protein as far as I'm aware, and eating plenty of nuts satisfies the fat side of things.

That article was basically about Low Carb Diet being better than other type of diets but it doesn't mean you can't lose weight in other diets.
As we all here at bodybuilding.com know that No Carbs are night

Seems like it would take a lot to equal one of my favorite things in life: MEAT! Same goes for getting your fats from nuts, i'd be chowing down on a lot of almonds. I understand that it's a "to each his own" thing when it comes to your personal diet, I just found it so strange that it was RECOMMENDED that they get their protein/fats from veggie sources. So odd. An attempt to offset the expected cholesterol problems perhaps?

I hadn't seen that side of things, but you're spot on.
"Of course eating low carb won't increase cholesterol if you don't eat any meat or eggs!"
They can skew statistics any way they want. At the end of the day, everyone needs to do something different to get their body how they want it. If there was a set formula, none of us would be fat in the first place.
