Hi everyone. I got in an accident in April with my girlfriend in the car...we were basically T - boned but the other car hit the front of my car instead of the middle. Anyhow I just got the MRI results today and I cannot get a hold of my doc so if anyone is willing to help I'd really appreciate it and rep you for whatever it's worth.

    My MRI:

Open MRI of the lumbar spine
    Reason : Lower back pain

    Findings:
T12-L1 disc level shows a 1 to 2 mm. posterior disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent. There is no evidence of spinal stenosis.

L1-L2 disc level shows a 2 mm. posterior disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent. There is no evidence of spinal stenosis.

L2-L3 disc level shows no evidence of posterior disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent.

L3-L4 disc level shows a 2 mm. posterior disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent. There is no evidence of spinal stenosis.

L4-L5 disc level shows a 2 to 3 mm. posterior disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent. There is no evidence of spinal stenosis.

L5-S1 disc level shows a 3 mm. posterior disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent. There is no evidence of spinal stenosis.

    Impression:

    All the same as above.

    My Girlfriend?s:

Open MRI of the cervical spine:
    Reason : Neck Pain

    Findings:
The C2-C3 disc level shows no evidence of disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent.

The C3-C4 disc level shows a 2 to 3 mm posterior disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent. The disc protrusion abuts the anterior margin of the cord.

The C4-C5 disc level shows no evidence of disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent.

The C5-C6 disc level shows a 2 mm posterior disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent. There is no evidence of spinal stenosis.

The C6-C7 disc level shows a 2 mm. posterior disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent. There is no evidence of spinal stenosis.

The C7-T1 disc level shows no evidence of disc protrusion present. The neural foramina appear patent.

disc protusion is basically a buldge that is pressing on the nerve, so if your hurting this is why. your prob going to be going to PT here real soon if your not already.....there is a fiberous ring around your disk that holds it in tact, its basically the step before a herniation!

to get more help with back stuff, find the post "for all of you with back pain" and go to that site. i found it after i had my L5-S1 fusion done and there is tons of information and always at least a few people that have been through same type of situation that can give you advise!

gimpy - are you saying for my MRI or my girlfriend's?

I'm not seeing anyone yet, just went to the chrio a couple times, then recently got the MRI. She has pain in her neck all the time, and I have pain in my lower back all the time...are both of our MRIs troublesome?

Thanks for the help so far.

you need to get an appt to see a neuro with your MRI results, from the hell i went through with my back they are the most helpful. issue should be able to be corrected with pt, but there are all kinds of things they can try and do first. the idiots insurance will more than likely not pay for anyhting up front and will be on your shoulders. my insurance company refused to pay because it was caused from an accident and wouldnt pick up anything for a year because it was considered pre-existing condition. luckily i had medpay on my insurance and my car insurance picked the first 25000 at no cost to me which thankfully lasted for the first year with all treatments, meds, mri's, xrays, doc visits, chiro and the first 2 injections i had done.

if the guy had low coverage on his insurance you may need to speak with a lawyer. i can assure you you will go through the amount he has pretty quickly if you do the treatments. ive been in legal bs for nearly 4 years now trying to settle this crap because i ended up having the surgery and all of that **** done. ive racked up well over 100,000 in med bills so far, have perm nerve damage, scar tissue, still in pain every day to some extent (sometimes i cant get out of bed), taking anti-depressants, muscle relaxers and pain meds on a daily basis for the most part. to top it all off i have a perm disablilty rating of %12.

go to the doctor by any means you can to get this taken care of early, if you wait and it gets worse its going to be a longer recovery and more serious steps (surgery, injects etc) are going to have to be taken. depending on if the buldges are hitting the nerve you may just have faucet joint paint from the whiplash affect also. I had problems with my neck after my wreck but has gone away for the most part overtime unless i do something stupid to irritate it.

for your back i would keep up at the gym and make sure to keep your core good and strong as that will be the main thing you will be doing in PT. stay away form anything thats going to put downward pressure on your spine for the time being.

eh btw, if the doctor you go to mentions anything about a myleogram or especially a discogram, make sure you take some strong meds with you or that they will actually gives you something because both of them hurt like a biatch but it does help to find out if you disk the route issue of your pain or something else. keep in mind too that you may just have soft tissue damage that hasnt healed yet. both of you need to remain active if humanly possible becuase if you lay around a lot its going to make it worse. for your gf would get try stretching, ice, heat and iburprofen 800mg to see if that helps here and would try with you too to help any inflamation you may have from the injuries.

either way just get it taken care of now, i was 19 when i had my wreck and i my grandfather can do more than me and he is in his 70's. your spine is nothing to just push off because you will regret it later. pm me if ya have any questions i may be able to answer for you and find that thread i posted and go to that site also, everyone on there is very helpful!

heres a link to what a protrusion is too, give you a little more info by actually seeing it. http://www.webdelaespalda.org/englis...nes/fisura.asp

ment to put too, if you call a lawyer they will get 1/3 of your settlement and if his coverage is that low your going to end up having to sue him personally which may not end up giving you jack **** if they dont have the money or colladeral. keep in mind if you doctor says this is something that will bother you for life to make sure you get an amount that will help you with medical bills in the future because your at a risk to be denied coverage because you have a pre-existing condition now...

Let me put it to you as simply as I can....You must have about the ****tiest posture ever, that is one hell of alot of disc protrusions

If you dont get in with a PT and basically dedicate your life to improving your posture your in for hell later on man

The key to that report is that the disc arnt "bumping" into any nerves yet, "nerve appears patent"....At your age the disc is still very agile and jelly like...The problem is..A) over time, gravity wants to push our body through the floor, and bones become less dense with age B) The discs themselves actually become less agile and the center more like toothpaste rather than jelly, causing not only nerve damage that radiates down all the extremeties but a number of other painful diseases of the spine

My point is, on the upside your young, but you must take the time to consult with PTs, back specialist, etc and dedicate your life to improving your posture or else before long your going to have serious problems...

Im wondering, do you have some sort of underlying birth defect causing all the protrusions??? That is an abnormally large amount of **** going wrong withing the spine, for any age person

Whoa, I apologize bro, i somehow skimmed over and totally missed the part about your car accident, explains a whole lot

That makes the news a whole lot more promising...Instead of years of poor posture and repetative stress causing the protrusions, severe trauma caused it....

Thats really good news, becouse with time, your normal lordatic posture along with a good regimine of physical therapy will push the discs back in place, a much easier and faster progression then someone with years of poor posture

Im not sure you realize just how much therapy you and your gal are up for, its going to be months and years not weeks....Dont take on the mentality of "I can do this on my own" becouse you cant, trust me

Therapy will teach you ex's to do not only in the clinic but on your own as well, and regular visits will catch the flaws you create at home with your home ex program....They will clean up the mess and eventually good posture, body mechanics, and core strength will become second nature for the rest of your life

Hope this helps, as it should, PM me with any more questions I deal with this stuff on a daily basis

Hey thank you so much for your help and input, I will run all this by my lawyer and see what we can do because the other party's coverage is so minimal and believe me we can't afford months/years of treatment.
I wonder who put you in the red? Too bad my reps weren't enough to raise it up.

anyway, do you not have health insurance or something??? Shame the other party is poor

But, as long as you really make an effort to soak up all the info you recieve in a couple months worth of PT, you will understand what you need to do in order to progress and be able to apply the theory to your own workout regimines...And like I said, you will recover much quicker and naturally rather then someone with chronic postural issues or birth defects

    keep us posted bro
