AM workout Foods
Hi everyone, I know someone just recently posted a similar thread, but mine is a little different so I thought if I could get some advice that would be great. I want to start working out in the AM, Ive heard you shouldn?t do weights and cardio together in the morning. Well that is if you havent eaten much or fasted I believe. I need to do both because I don?t have time to go twice in one day. If I get up at 545, that gives me 15 to get my stuff together and grab a quick bite. I also take Torque by body fuel which is like a no explode type product, which you take 30 min before working out and says shouldn?t be taken within 30 minutes of eating. My question is should I eat something before a weight & cardio workout and if so what? I need something fast and quick, maybe a banana is that enough?

I've been wondering about this too.
It's like do you do fasted cardio, eat something, then hit the weights? Or
Eat something (That means no fat burner or creatine), hit the weights, then do cardio?
I have seen a few people at the gym do Am cardio, then go to the locker room eat (shake), and then go do the weights. I'm not sure if a shake is enough to fuel your body though.

I'm in the same boat. I don't have time to do cardio later in the day so I do it after my workout. On the days where I don't get up early enough, I have a whey shake with some fruit before my workout. If I can get enough time to eat about 45min-1hr before hand I usually eat 1/2c oats, 30gwhey (chocolate tastes so good in coffee with some soy milk), and a piece of fruit. On my heavier lifting days, legs in partcular, I personally prefer to eat a whole food meal because that workout really kicks my butt and I need the energy.

In my opinion you're likely to get better results from eating a whole food proper meal before a workout than taking a thermogenic and creatine. That said, I sometimes don't have time to eat a real meal before my morning workout(s), so I will try to compromise by drinking a whey shake or something similar and whatever quick carbs I can grab, doing my lifting, then having a recovery or creatine drink and doing the cardio. The whey is very bioavailable and should be useful even if you chug it within 30 minutes of working out. The carbs (sugar) in the recovery or creatine drinks help pick me up for the cardio, which I keep very very low intensity after a weight session.

Not really much more to add. What I did when my program called for morning workouts and Cardio (besides cry myself to sleep) was prepare a meal the night before. I'd scramble some eggs & set my coffee timer and then when I woke up I'd have a full meal (incl 1-2 pieces WW Toast) and then go train. If I didn't have time for that, I'd mix a scoop of whey into some oatmeal and eat that. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend weights on an empty stomach, and doing cardio then eating and then training seems a bit...well... nuts!
Think quick and easy, that's all. OP, if you have to do it all in the morning, a meal replacement shake (that has carbs) would be fine to drink on the way!
p.s. NP - I just put protein in my coffee for the first time... I ruined a perfectly good cup of coffee and a scoop of protein... you owe me approximately $2.48.... just sayin....

Twerp - not sure what to tell you. I put chocolate isolate with some soy milk in my coffee and it tastes like a cafe mocha to me. All I can say is..sorry your drink sucked.

WTF are you talking about???? That is one of my greatest 'inventions'! I did it last Fall when I was running late to class and decided to dump the protein in my coffee instead of drinking both. It's been a staple since.
1. Put protein powder on an EMPTY cup/mug/bucket, then pour fresh coffee while stirring.
2. Enjoy the greatest high-protein flavored coffee ever.
Chocolate, vanilla, cookies & cream, strawberry. Whey works fine, casein clumps a little, blends give it a nice texture.

Recovery is key. Massages, epsom salts baths, foam rolling, sleep masks, contrast showers, it all adds up. Get a foam roller, The Stick, a tennis/baseball, use them and stay healthy, pain and injury free.

Before I train in the AM I eat the following:
Scrambled Eggs w/ 20g Cacao Nibs + 1 TBSP Almond Butter + Cinnamon.
A small shake consisting of:
1/2 scoop Mint Choc Whey
5g Psyllium Husk
A big shot of coffee
+ Water
That sets me up nicely..!

The trick is to fully cook the oats first, then add a little water and then add the protein... found that through much trial and error
