Maintaining weight on a keto diet?
I'm curious as to if anyone uses keto to maintain their weight, and not just for fat loss. Although the diet is very effective in burning fat, would it be outrageous to use the diet to maintain if you don't eat below (or above) your maintenance caloric intake?
(First post ftw)

I have found that eating around maintenance you very slowly change body comp... build muscle and lose fat... and eat great tasting food at the same time

I've been using keto to maintain for about seven years now. I'm sure I could switch to a different diet, but I love the food on keto, my blood work is excellent and I don't see any need to fix something that's not broken.

I read about a guy in another forum who says he maintains buy doing keto on a 200-500 cal deficit weekdays and cheats on most weekends going way above maintenance drinking a lot of beer.
He says he's maintained 9-10% body fat for years now.

On lifting and cardio days you could get in a few more cals just to make up for it
Dont over do it- but enough to maintain

Probably one of the many advantages of keto-style dieting.
You can still have a social life and chill with your friends and eat instead of making up some excuse like "I don't feel good" or "I'm not hungry" "I'm dieting for a contest"

a few months ago i went to maintenance for a month on keto. I kept lifting and doing cardio. In that month i didnt lose any weight but i deffinately leaned out. i did carbups every week instead of everyth other like i do when cutting. Suprisingly my lifts got alot better.

I'd need to work this out... I know I burn more on the days that I lift as opposed to the days I do cardio or rest.
All this sounds like positive feedback. Only thing that sucks is I'm going to be out of town this week and might not be able to start until next week. ):

I still think someone should try to make their own low carb tortillas. Results could be amazing.

Well I have to have some sort of meal plan (what to eat, how much, etc) other wise I tend to severely under eat (and what I end up eating leaves me feeling ewugh), so I'm trying out different diets and seeing how it affects me overall (I'm still pushing an eating disorder out of my system). I also tend to be very health conscious about what I eat and I feel more comfortable with a lot of structure as opposed to little/none.
I've tried a moderate amount of carbs in my diet and I felt like crap... I've cut down on the carbs in the past week and I feel about 100x better so I figured I could go even lower and see how that would affect me, hence my interest in keto. Plus every thing I've read so far sounds beneficial for now and later on in life. (:

Yes, keto has a lot of health benefits, especially for women. All that low fat stuff is not an advantage if you are thinking in terms of future fertility or strong bones.
As long as you can wrap your head round high fat foods, it might be easier for someone who has had an ED, as a lot of the food is calorie dense, so you don't have to eat till you burst to get the calories in.

I just meant that if it is going to be difficult to start this week, just wait one.
If an ED has been in your past, you're going to find KETO to be a breath of fresh air....i know more than a few people that have made real serious progress from an ED through KETO becuse it makes eating easier and no carbs means a more consistent look and feeling of digestion....I don't know anything about your specific experience with an ED but a close friend of mine said she was able to completely irradicate Bulimia and not restrict because of KETO.
So I just say good luck with KETO - - it will serve you well!

Yesssss
I had a severe eating disorder, or series of them: restricting, bulimia, chew/spitting.... I only focused on everything I couldn't eat and ate mainly proteins, minimal carbs, minimal fats. I was constantly hungry, no energy, and always either sickly looking or insanely bloated then finally overweight.
Then I stumbled upon this forum, read the science behind it and gave it a shot. Since then I have lots of energy for working out, banished my food obsessions, and lost 9 pounds. The people in this forum are really helpful and supportive and even comedic at times.
I totally get when you talk about some sort of structure in your diet. When I have nothing like that set in place I am unable to make good food choices. The only thing I had an issue with was all that fat that is consumed, but I promise, if you just eat what you're supposed to, this diet will work. Best of luck!
