Cognitive Nutrition's Phenylethylamine
Hi, I'm doing a log for Cognitive Nutrition's Phenylethylamine. I want to thank Steve Sliwa for the opportunity.
Pea is neuromodulator found in chocolate and produced in the brain from D-Phenylalanine. Pea is related to neurotransmitters dopamine and nor-epinephrine. It is involved in mood, attention, mental energy/alertness and focus.
Dosage: I'll be experimenting with various dosages but I will be starting off with 1 gram on an empty stomach upon waking.
What I'm looking for: I'm looking for enhanced focus and improved mood.
Let's get started!

Day 1: I took my first dose (1 gram) about 1.5 hours after breakfast. I dosed it with four capsules of Core Zap! and an additional 20mg of 1, 3. This is my typical pre-workout stack. It's about a 50 minute ride to the gym and I felt the PEA kicking in around 15 minutes after dosing. For me it starts as a bit of tension behind the forhead. It almost feels like my sinuses are opening up. It's hard to describe. This stuff really enhances stimulants! I experienced tunnel vision focus and a slight mood elevation. The ride to the gym seemed to fly by and I didn't even get pissed off at the other motorists! Workout was intense and very focused. It really seems to allow you to focus on the task at hand, eliminating wandering thoughts. I'm also a full time college student and I suspect this would be an excellent aid during long lectures and for getting assignments/studying done. I just started a summer class on Monday and I look forward to trying PEA this weekend when I'm working on assignments/reading.

I noticed the effects of my first dose for about 5-6 hours. I took an additional 1 gram at work about 8 hours after my initial dose. I dosed on an empty stomach again, or as close to empty as my stomach gets as I eat every 3 hours. I amazed at how quickly I feel it kicking in, about 10 minutes after I take the two capsules I get that funny feeling behind my forhead. As noted before, excellent focus and pleasant mood. The tunnel vision focus is awesome for getting things done. PEA seems like it will be great for enhancing productivity. Sleep was very deep and I had vivid, intense dreams. I woke up a little groggy but that could be due to anything. Nothing a cup of coffee couldn't fix! So far I'm impressed and look forward to experimenting further with PEA.

Things have been going great with PEA. I've been dosing 1 gram upon waking with a cup of coffee and 1 gram every 4 hours throughout the day for a total of 3 grams per day. Focus has been great and my mood has been excellent! I am more productive in the morning when it normally takes me awhile to get going. I'm cutting atm so on the days I don't train I do fasted cardio in the morning. PEA combined with a few cups of black coffee and my mp3 are really getting the job done. My mood at work has been very good, I'm more chatty than normal and have an overall sense of well being all day that I wasn't experiencing before. I've been using it three days in a row and plan to take Friday off so I don't build a tolerance. I'm going to experiment with 2 grams combined with cannabis this weekend just for the sake of curiosity. I'll also report on it's effects on studying/reading when I hit the books on Sunday for a summer course I'm taking.
Overall, I find PEA to be very versatile and can see it becoming a staple in my supplement arsenal.

Throwing cannabis in the mix hmmm......how did that go?
Started reading another journal about this product (I think it was this) but they stopped logging. Curios about it, can you take other meds w/it?

Lol. Busted! I conducted an experiment Saturday night. It went a little something like this: 1.5 grams of PEA. A little bit of the Kind. Another 1 gram of PEA. (Note to self: 500 mg would have been a better choice!) There was definetely a synergy between the two. I experienced tingling on the skin and scalp. An overall increase in intensity. The win for sure.

I've been dosing the PEA 1.5 grams twice per day. I really like this stuff and plan to order a bottle this week. Mood has been great and I really like it combined with a coffee/stim before my workouts. Sleep has been very good. Lots of vivid dreams which is always fun. Took a sick day from work today and went to the beach with a ladyfriend. (I'm going to blame the sunburn on my "fever" lol) 1.5 grams before I lifted this a.m. and another 1.5 after. The drive down was nice. Tunes in my car sounded great, sun and clear blue sky shining through the open sunroof and a nice little head buzz made for an awesome day. This is what sick days were meant for!
It also has been useful as a study aid. A great tool for getting things done. Steve, when the semester is in full swing, I get pretty burnt out balancing my full time job/full course load/training. Can you recommend any other supplements to help someone with this type of crazy schedule. I currently use Rhodiola Rosea which I find excellent before bed and piracetam in the a.m. to help blow the cobwebs out.

Sure thing. L-Huperzine A and Pyritinol are really good picks!

I'll check those out thanks. I've continued dosing 3 grams per day but I went from 2 x 1.5 back to 3 x 1. Dosing 1.5 grams and up gives me a funny feeling in my stomach. It passes after a short while though so no biggy. 3 days on and 1 day off seem to be the way to go. I tend to build a tolerance to things quick and this seems to be working well for me so I'm gonna roll with it. The hot morning combo right now is 1 gram PEA, and my own "proprietary blend" of piracetam, B5, ALCAR, Rhodiola Rosea, Chocamine, and black coffee. The fasted cardio mix. Do work.

Okay, let me wrap this up. Work has been crazy lately. Well, I finished my bottle of pea and I enjoyed it very much. This is a very versatile supplement. I feel it's ideal for pre workout, studying, or anytime you want to feel intensely focused. It should definitely be cycled. I did 3 grams at 3 days on and 1 day off. The next time I would probably do every other day or 2 on 1 off. I noticed for about 4 days after I finished a little bit of depression and I had a headache for 3 days. The headache was unusual, I don't ever recall having a headache for that long. I am prone to a bit of anxiety/depression once in a while, usually during the winter months especially Jan/Feb. I can't say for sure that pea caused this obviously, but it did seem as though I went through a mild withdrawal. That said, I would use pea again and plan to order a bottle soon to continue to experiment with. I'd like to thank Steve once again for his generosity and I hope this log provided some useful feedback for those who read it. Thanks!

OutOfStep, I was also surpried you use Rhodiola before bed although I have read that higher doses are sedating. What doses are you using before bed and have you tried lower doses at any other time of the day?
I am about to start my PEA and was going to combine it with Rhodiola 500mg, Green Tea 500mg and some sort of Caffeine (probably just a strong coffee) as my pre w/o stack.

Thanks!

Headache may be a Choline issue. MAY BE!!
I've used ALCAR in the past and get headaches if I don't supplement with extra Choline or Lecithin and I'm not prone to headaches at all. Mine have lasted up to a week!!

Yeah I got the choline citrate, I dose it with the piracetam and ALCAR.

I am about to start my PEA and was going to combine it with Rhodiola 500mg, Green Tea 500mg and some sort of Caffeine (probably just a strong coffee) as my pre w/o stack.

Yeah with the Rhodiola I've read that higher doses can make you restless but I've never noticed it. I dose around 300-500mg I guess. I don't weigh it up, I just eyeball it. I used to use it in the morning and then I started dosing at night and felt that I slept heavier so I just dose it at night now. I'll usually run it about 2 months and then take a month or two off.

Try alpha gpc or centrophenoxine sometime. You should like it over choline citrate.
