Hey guys it's your local vertical row enthusiast again. I'm still waiting on my welder to get back to me on finishing the uprgrades for my rack. So in the meantime I need some ideas on building a homemade pullups stand.
And to narrow down the suggestions I can not mount it from the ceiling of my garage nor do I want a doorway pullup bar.
I'm thinking about just getting some pieces of pipe from home depot again with the screw on ends and just connecting them to make a stand but what can I do about feet at the bottom of it for stabilization and to keep it steady?
Hmm. Oh well looking forward to some of you all's ideas.

Sorry Man, I dont know how you could make something thats not a dedicated pull-up unit, or mounted to the ceiling joists.
Are you sure you just cant mount something to your garage ceiling like this ? Then just take out the screws or remove it later ?
Because other than this Ive never seen a portable floor standing pull-up device, let alone one which I would trust not to collapse.

You can search for one of those "Tactical" stand alone chins/pullup units and copy it's construction, or you can spring for something already made up like this http://www.amazon.com/Phoenix-99403-.../dp/B0001AJIAC

Well I made a quick pullup stand while I was in home depot tonight. I attached various pieces of 3/4 by 36 and 72" pipe using a few 90 degree elbows and some tee's with pipe coming out both ways for feet. It worked just fine when I did 2 sets of pullups on it.
But looking at the total price for all of that pipe etc it would have cost me more than what juan would charge me for a permanent straight pullup bar attachment. So I guess I will have to continue to play the waiting game for this as well.

Are your ceiling joists accessible? I know this might sound odd, but I've actually used my joists for pull-ups. The nice thing about this is that you could use one or two joists.
