LOL at the pic.
You are right. That seems unsafe and I have no idea what the purpose of doing it that way would be other than to look really, really gay.

Maybe there was no place to Preacher Curl? And judging by his facial expression, he was confused as much as you were.

I have done something like that.. on the decline bench with a ball in front of me..attempting preacher curls since my gym dosn't have any. But I always made sure no one was watching! I felt to silly! But I have since found a better way.

It's actually a really good variation on the traditional preacher curl... You can also sit on the ball and do excellent incline curls. The ball allows you to hit different angles....
Great drawing too, I might add.

Maybe he's trying to attract a mate...I assume he was wearing light colors or pastels...and the drawing made me spit coffee all over my keyboard...ty I needed that. Excellent way to end the work day.

My trainer has tried to get me to do various weight exercises (bench presses, curls, etc.) on a stability ball but I have to use light weights and it winds up being a core stabilizer exercise instead of stimulating the chest, biceps, etc. Well maybe that's the point but I don't particularly enjoy it or feel like it's a good technique, and of course it looks ridiculous ;-)

they do similiar styles of lighting weights on a yoga ball in fitball class.
But you dont use heavy weights otherwise you will injure yourself.
its good cause it also works on your balance.

I do bent over rows on a ball and they kick my ass. That AND keeping the ball from wobbling by using my core is one awesome exercise.
Also, best web drawing EVAR!

Never done anything like that, but I would imagine it helps stabalize and improve your core strength while doing some curls. Gee, the arms&abs only guys figured out a way to do one excersize for what they want. Lol.

Doing exercises like this on an exercise ball helps work your core in addition to the main muscle being worked.
Edit - CCS beat me to it.

What is up with people using the ball for everything. I saw a guy doing a bench press with dumbbells on a ball yesterday. He was going fairly heavy (wobbling arms) and I was just waiting for him to collapse and injure something.
Only thing worse than that is squats on a ball. Crazy.

It works you core. The stronger your core is, the heavier you can lift, in general.
Edit- core is a lot more than abs. They also include stabilizer muscles that support your back, hips, and shoulders. Developing them helps relieve some of the stress of heavy lifting, decreasing the chance for injury.
