overreaction? lol.
I really expected the D to look a lot better than this. I know we held them to 17 which is a solid point total, but that doesn't tell the whole story.
On that 10 minute drive, we let them convert on five 3rd downs. FIVE! One of them was a 3rd and 18, another was 3rd and 11 I think. Then we roughed the passer on 3rd and 13. What the FUKK.
I think the defense has no discipline, and that's on the coaching staff. I also just seem to think our scheme is dogshiit. We don't play aggressive on D. I always hear people say "with Von Miller and D Ware, once this team gets a lead the defense will get to just pin their ears back and get after the QB!" Except that never happens. We don't seem to press very often even though we have the corners to do it. We don't blitz very often. Our zone coverage looks like absolute shiit. Imagine if we had a real defensive coordinator lol. Was 2012 just a fluke? Top 3 defense with Del Rio and a roster not as good as this one. I remember thinking how great Del Rio was at making adjustments. Every time we would start to get shredded he would counteract it somehow and we'd end up getting a bunch of 2nd half sacks or turnovers. So far this year that hasn't happened, we seem like we're holding on for dear life in the 2nd half rather than being the aggressors.
Then on offense... 2 straight 2nd halves where we look awful, partially due to our defense being on the field for seemingly the entire half, and partially because we go full-on conservative and start running 1st and 2nd down every time no matter how many times we see montee ball get stuffed for 2 yard gains. ITS NOT WORKING! SWITCH IT UP! CJ Anderson looks better than Montee Ball. And regardless, our best tool in the run game should be running out of the shotgun after Peyton reads the defense. We are not the type of team who should be running out of a singleback formation with peyton under center 10+ times a game.
We're 2-0 but I don't feel great about what I've seen. I realize we're going to get better as the season goes along, but I gotta say I don't feel great about our chances in Seattle. Not that I ever did, lol.

That post was from after the Chiefs game. I've actually been much more impressed with the D the last 2 games. Still some frustrating stuff, but we forced an absurd amount of punts yesterday and if it wasn't for that fluke TD to Ellington down the sideline we also hold a pretty good offense to only 13 points. It's trending upwards. We might make Geno get benched again next week.

Welp... time to move on from the Manning/Fox era in my opinion. He's given us a lot, and he can still play, but I don't think he's got what it takes to win a Super Bowl anymore. And unless you're trying to win superbowls you don't pay a QB $20m a year.
Fox... well I've wanted him gone for a while now.

I wanted Dan Quinn, but when that became clear it wasn't going to happen and we were getting Kubiak, then I really wanted Vance Joseph at DC... then the kunt Bengals wouldn't let us holler at him.
Wade has traditionally been a great DC though, and a 3-4 isn't a huge change for us.
Team will look a lot different next year.
