Question I work 12 Hour shifts(when to lift?)

Help! I work 12 hour shifts three consecutive days a week . I am off four days a week. I wake up at 5 pm and get home at 8am. I cant figure out when to fit in weight lifting. I read that you are supposed to eat certain things before and after lifting weights. I don't think I should lift weights, eat and then go to sleep. I would have to wake up like 2 hours earlier than usual to lift weights before work. What should I do? Does anyone else have a similiar schedule?

What's wrong with lifting, eating, then sleeping? Sounds pretty good to me.

Yes, lift, eat and sleep. That's how I do it.

I thought you were not supposed to eat certain things before going to bed. What kind of things can I eat after lifting if I have to go straight to bed?

If I worked 12-hour shifts, I would only train on my days off. I know how wiped out I get in a 9 or 10 hour work day and I think it would be counterproductive to add training to that. You can make LOTS of progress on just 4 days a week - that's all I do "offseason" anyway.

Planet Fitness man, this gym is open 24-7 and you only truly need about an hour too an hour and half for a good workout. Just make sure you train, and don't slack. I run into so many men and women who complain their to busy too better themselves. Everyone can find time, its only the commited that survive.

I am a nurse and work 12 hr shifts as well. I work days however, but either way. I usually do most of my lifting on my off days. On work days, I will get up early and do some cardio only, or I use those days as my rest days (at least from weight training ) I, however, recently started splitting my workouts alot more and usually have 1 body part that is all by its lonesome on a day, and I usually will get up early enough to workout that bodypart and do some cardio. It also depends on what I am feeling my body is needing at the time, sleep or exercise! and I adjust accordingly
You focus your mind to train your body, and the changes that begin to take place impact your mind as well. Dream it, believe it, and you will achieve it. ~Arnold Schwarzenegger, The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding, 1998

Do your weight training on your days off. I know many will lower their carb and fat intake pre and post workout...then spread evenly thoughout the rest of your meals. (Though I don't think it makes a huge difference) I'm not into the "don't eat carbs or fats after a certain time" blah, blah, blah...it's a total myth. As long as your calories and numbers are on point...I don't care if your last meal is at midnight...
