Please critique my deadlift form, after lower back surgery
Well here's the story. I've stopped deadlifting almost a year due to a lower back injury which required surgery. I'm now deadifting at a frequency of once a month which seems to work well for me. I'm trying to catch up to my old poundages in this lift. It's not as impressive like what some of the mass monsters here are lifting but I felt pretty good about the PR; 475lbs. Here it is:-
Any tips would be appreciated as I'm rather terrified of screwing up my lower back again. I feel that I could've done more as it felt pretty easy but hell, I'm playing it safe.
Btw I'm on Hola's 12 day rotation.

Its hard to tell much from the video. Looks like your hips shoot up a little early, and there might be lower back rounding, but again its hard to tell from the vid. Work on pulling back more, and keep the bar as close to your body as possible.
How did you injure your lower back in the first place? I can think of a lot other ways to train hamstrings/glutes/lower back other than deadlifts from the floor.

Noted, thanks. I did a 510. I lifted it once, then twice. My ego told me to go for a 3rd single. That did it. The injury was so bad that a simple sneeze would make me double up in pain and I would collapse on the floor.

The video is VERY choppy though.
Thanks. Blame my phone. You wanna buy me a new one?

Yep, doing 3 or more reps will get you everytime, especially when going heavy on squats or deadlifts. Do singles with the heavy stuff.
I have a history of back problems too going back 16 years ago and after multiple attempts at deadlifting heavy again, I just gave them up altogether. Anytime I get close to 550, my back will go out. Using good form helps but your back will still go out good form or not. People that think they can handle real heavy weights as long as they use good form usually learn a hard lesson. I saw a guy screaming from a ripped pec trying to do 20 reps with 250lbs a couple of weeks ago. He was using nice strict form too.
I am able to go over 600lbs on the trap bar deadlift though. Having the weight centered really takes the pressure off of my back. I still do heavy rack pulls from the knees but I will never do regular deads from the floor again. I have short arms too, so regular deads will never be a safe exercise for me.
