Is sushi considered a healthy food?
It has fish and rice. Sounds like win-win. But I suppose it all depends on how it is prepared?

Yeah.. it is considered healthy.
But too low protein, and high fat (although good fat), and high carb.

The Man.
It's healthy.. it has seaweed, fish and avocado, which are all good for you. Yeah, it's got a lot of carbs but it does have a decent amount of protein and lots of healthy fat. There's about 400 kcal in 12 rolls and it's not that filling, so i'd imagine it's pretty good for bulking.

i see sushi as a healthy alternative in regards to eating out (fast food). much like subway, it is very high in carbs!

I must say one thing about sushi, while it's over all healthy, I noticed that sushi promotes energy.

BCAA junkie
FIsh + rice = good.
Just watch some of the rolls, like the tempura rolls and rolls with sauce poured all over them.
Nigiri is awesome though.

Anyways, sushi is amazing. I'm pretty sure as long as it's not packaged or drenched in crazy Asian oils you'll be fine.

No sir, I don't like it.
Sushi is one of the best things you can put in your body.

I am an optimist, it does not seem to be of much use being anything else.

Depends on what you are comparing it to. Compared to the 'average' American diet - **** it's super-healthy, compared to a totally whole grain/unprocessed foods diet - well the white rice is probably not the healthiest option.
The fish is good though.

My diets 40/40/20 so sushi is awesome for me. Not THAT many carbs in a sushi roll. Anyway GI index is over rated ( waits for flame )

Excellent as a post w/o meal. The glycemic rating of white rice suggests that it raises your insulin levels and the salmon, tuna, yellowtail etc. is the protein to feed your muscles.

Sashimi is even better, and you can get it with brown rice on the side.

Amazingly enough, it's cheaper to order sushi, a side of brown rice and toss the white rice.....

Someone was asking about what is in the rice: Sushi rice is made with vinegar. Gives it that semi acidic taste.
As far as it being healthy, yes its extremely healthy: omega 3's in the fish, can be low cal, nutrient dense with sea weed, ginger. -- Even better for you if you just eat nigiri (the fish on top of rice) -- Nigiri usually has like 1-2 tablespoons of rice. That's not bad.
Watch the soy sauce. (High in sodium). (duh )
Plus. Its darn good. My favorite meal. (But I leave in Seattle and we get some of the best fish in the country).

i would love to try it out there... Fish isnt considered bad at all around here but i bet the west coast is gangster.
I usually go for the buffets cuz im cheap. It's not the best quality of fish around here but it still tastes damn good to me. I just throw it down like its nobodys business
