How much protein(grams) is in a single steak?

Around how much protein in grams is in one normal-sized porterhouse type-cut of steak? Cooked medium-rare i guess. thanks.

I think though that the 7 (or 9 grams, that I've heard) is only true in very lean or quality cuts. There is less in ground beef and lesser quality cuts I believe.

Porterhouse is usually the biggest cut of steak, cause it's NY Strip on one side and Filet Mignon on the other side, sometimes can come up to 20 oz.

Unfortunately! I can't believe that in a day and age where out of shape people who don't care about their health are always seeking out the best tasting foods, that it isn't junk food that costs more than healthy food, instead of vice versa...

I mean, obviously not everyone buys top quality chicken breast or Laura's lean ground beef, but I guarantee that fat people would be taking out exorbitant loans to get Oreos, cupcakes and baby back ribs if they had to!

    it's competition and mass production.
if i ran a toothbrush store, i would do far better to sell a million toothbrushes at $1 than one toothbrush at a $1,000,000.

until eating healthy becomes trendy on a significant scale, there will be little competition to manage prices

the difference is negligible. it's the other nutrients and minerals in steak that makes it good...and the savory taste

if one ounce has 7-9 grams of protein and there are ~35 ounces in 2.2lbs, you ate about 280grams of protein. happy pooping.

Sure, it's not boneless skinless chicken breast with vegetables, but it sure is healthier than microwave burritos! Hopefully the trend continues!

it'll get it's ass kicked by the much larger (pun INTENDED ) obesity trend.

fortunately, it's still easy to eat well and inexpensively if you take a little extra time for preparation.

your source is giving an even higher percentage of protein

first example is a 100g lean cut with 30.5g protein content.

    100g= ~3.5ounces. 3.5ounces x 7grams/ounce = 24.5 grams of protein by my figure. yours said 30.5 which is close to a 9g/ounce ratio.

like i said, it's a ballpark figure though...it varies depending on quality.

mine was taken from http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/wha...roteinfood.htm but most give around a 7g/ounce figure.

rarely i find a thread only a day old when google searching...sweet

SO, its safe to say 10oz of lean beef= about 70g protein

fitday mentioned 81g protein--and I thought that was a little high.

so you said 7g per oz of red meat, and fish roughly--how about lean chicken (breast)

edit: found this in your link mentioned above "Chicken meat, cooked, 4 oz – 35 grams"

SO 4 into 35= 8.75...sooo chicken has roughly with no fat 8.75--almost 9 grams of protein per oz?? more than beef?
