Hard Lean Body Vs. A Soft Curvy Body...
I was just wondering how to achieve one vs. the other? Is it based on the number of reps, the amount of exercise? What are the specifics? Also, which in your opinion is more appealing?

muscular development and bodyfat levels
that's all it is
same size but leaner = more muscle
same size and softer = less muscle and more fat

Diet and cardio or lack of cardio if you want to be soft.
Lifting has nothing to do with it.
Personally: Hard Lean body is more appealing.

Agreed. I'm at my "setpoint" weight right now so I've been at this number many times. I'm a lot leaner than I normally am at this weight and feel so much better now that I'm lifting weights.

I'm leaner than I have been before at this weight but do not consider myself hard or lean. I guess I'm more soft and curvy.
As for which is more attractive, how "lean and hard" and "soft and curvy" are we talking? I think a fit body is more attractive than an unfit one but I think "soft and curvy" can be fit as can "hard and lean." It just depends on the person and how they pull it off.

Yeah, I was just wondering which way to go for my build. Growing up I was always skinny and I said I would never be that way again. But now I am wondering how I'd look if I actually let go of some of my bodyfat. Oh well, guess it's worth a try!

Realize that a hard lean body can be plenty curvy too, if the proper strength training has been done to fill in the right places
Squats + excess bf can = a big butt
squats + lower bf can = a seriously nice butt

Some people can pull off soft and curvy and look really good. Most of us do not look as good when we are soft though. Personally, my "curves" are hidden by fat when I am soft, so I'm either hard and curvy or soft and shapeless.

yes I agree go for the lean build.. do those compound exercises and cardio and the "curves" will come. Squats will perk your rear end up to promote the curviness. IMO i think people generally prefer the leaner build because it signifies that the person has alot of work ethic and for some reason that is sexy to everybody (including me!)

I "achieve" a soft, curvy body without even trying.
Lean and hard, well, I'll have to get back to you on that one.

I would have to agree with the above poster about some people being able to pull off the "soft and curvy" look. I've seen bigger people that look halfway decent people their fat is distributed evenly and they don't have much cellulite, so they actually look soft.
For me, I never get that "soft" look when I gain weight or bloat up. Its always just gross looking

Rubes00,
Lol...well whatever you're doing is working for you. I just need to find my balance, maybe somewhere in the middle. I just hope to keep the little curves that I do have while dropping bodyfat.

Hey thanks. As long as your lifting heavy and doing those compound movements you shouldn't lose too much of your curves. Once you drop some fat and am able to see your body lines, you look even curvier. Keep it up!

From what I can tell (still being over 220lbs and by no means an expert) you can be muscular and curvy - check out Amy Suds' and Chicken Tuna's cute butts.

She looks good. She's somewhere between soft and hard. Way harder than most, but she'd still look good if she got a little leaner.

I don't necessarily think soft and curvy means you eat crap and don't work out. While I could improve my diet, I don't eat crap, and I work out very hard. I don't have a super lean body, but I am in shape and have visible muscles, all while still considering myself to be soft and curvy. I think it's an insult to say soft and curvy means you eat crap and don't work out.

I agree 100%. I've seen this type of comment more than once around here and it's just not true. Not to mention it belittles those of us work hard and eat pretty good.
Not everyone here wants to get super lean and eat super clean. There's nothing wrong with that.
