Cheerios?
How do cheerios (plain) compare to 100% whole wheat bread as a source of complex carbs? I know ppl are probably going to say oats are better, but if I need to grab something, bread/cheerios are easier.
Also, I know the general consensus around here is that protein bars are BAD, but what is wrong with this one:
Power Crunch bar
200 calores/12 g fat/10 g carbs/13 g protein
Ingredients: Proto Whey Proprietary Protein Blend (Proto Whey? [Micro Peptides From Extreme Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Fraction [55% Di & Tri Peptides], Maltodextrin, Sucralose], Whey Protein Isolate), Peanut Butter (Peanuts, Palm Oil, Sugar, Salt), Palm Oil, Enriched Flour (Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Sugar, Palm Kernel Oil, Dextrose, Soy Lecithin, Natural And Artificial Flavors, Salt, Sucralose, Baking Soda, Yellow #5, Yellow #6, Red #40, Blue #1
Thanks.

for a 200 calorie protein bar, 13 grams of protein is a joke. you would need to take 2, which would then give you 24g of fat and 20g of bad carbs

The bar has kind of a lot of fat for not much protein at all really. Would be better to make your own me thinks, it aint too hard.
Cheerios are okay, but not quite as good as some breads you can get, it does have added sugar, although it's not much.
Look into Arrowhead Mills. They make a lot of GREAT products, my favorite is Puffed Kamut. Kamut is a grain that is pretty high in protein, and moderate in fiber. I mix it with ezekiel cereal and some almonds and it's delicious.

Pure Protein and Met-Rx have some bars around 180 calories that are 19-20g protein. Sort of small though. Detour Reduced Sugar has 15g protein and 170 calories... Uhh... EAS Myoplex Lite bars are 190 calories and have 15g protein as well.
I'd go with the Detours.

Thanks guys. I've had the puffed kamut before and loved it. Maybe I'll try that out. I also love the puffed corn kind, but I'm guessing that isn't as good.
As for the protein bar, I already get plenty of protein in. I just needed some extra calories, and that didn't seem like a terrible way to get some in and satisfy my sweet tooth. I agree that there are better foods out there, but the bar just didn't seem all that bad to me. I don't mind the fat either. I'm trying to gain weight. As for the other protein bars mentioned, I really try to stay away from the sugar alcohols, so that rules a lot of them out. Def good suggestions, though.

I agree. I can't stand those VPX bars.
But then again, I'll take a protein shake over any kind of bar. And if I'm in a pinch, I drink Chocolate Milk instead of eating a bar.

Same. Only Protein bars I EVER liked were those Steel Bars, but I don't see the flavors I used to eat like candy much anymore. I don't think they are engineered with as much nutritional value as today's though, but taste much MUCH better.

i just save the hassel and make my own protein bars...there are tons of videos on youtube of people making them...watch some, get ideas, and make your own...that way you can calculate how much of everything you have in each bar

I'm loving the puffed kamut cereal. And it's so easy. How does eating the puffed cereal compare to eating the grain cooked? The only ingredient in the cereal is puffed organic whole grain kamut.

offtopic, but Bigredelts, I'd say some of those signs make you know you have an ED more than anything.

No doubt! Most perfect slow d carb. Cheap, easy, healthy, one ingredient and preformed into bite sized squares - good times... I am eating some right now at work...
I like the shredded wheat and Bran
Cheerios, c'mon... I love those, but you can do better

Yes, I get the picture that cheerios = bad! But puffed kamut has 1 ingredient - puffed organic whole grain kamut. I'm wondering what the "puffed" does to the grain. Does it make it more processed, therefore not as good? So should I still go for something like shredded wheat over a puffed whole grain? Just curious.

really? what flavor did you try? The pumpkin flavor is awesome, I love them... you just have to drink lots of water when you eat it.
cheerios are ok; they're probably better than most name brand whole wheat bread
