Looking to Network with Others who Own, Run, Manage, or Interested in Starting Own Gy
Hello -
I'm a double major graduate from Temple University's Fox School of Business. (Entrepreneurship & Marketing)
I have been working on a business plan RE: a gym to be started, with a certain "look" and feel different of all the fitness gyms out today. Essentially, it would be a 'brand' that could be replicated and duplicated to fit the needs of the bodybuilder, not the fitness guru.
I'm looking to network with different people on here - especially those of you in the Northeast, (PA, NJ, MD, DE, NY, etc.) - who are currently owning a gym, running a gym, managing a gym, or have a true dedication and willing to want to get into the Business Aspect of the Fitness Industry.
I'd also like to speak with anyone who has experience in the business side of the Fitness Industry, preferably entrepreneurs or managers who have direct experience in the operations management and business-side of the industry.
Please, serious inquiries only. I'd really like to establish this thread as a networking tool specifically for those of us interested in the potential to make a career and start a business within our passions.
Those of you who reply, if you'd like to shoot me a PM, that'd be great.
I'd love to chat over e-mail, by phone, or even in person if we're close.
I look forward to the responses I will be getting.

I've got about 4,000 lbs or more of weights (DBs, Plates, Trees, BBs) that you could have for a small price... they're in "ok" condition and currently at SJU.

Just curious, how are you going to find an area with a high enough concentration of "hardcore bodybuilders" to make a decent profit in an already low profit industry? Fitness centers and such don't even make much money...

Good luck, sounds interesting. I don't see how you'll make money without the female fat losers... etc...

Yeah, this is what I'm saying. It'd have to be something you truly love and want to do which I'm sure it is.

why is this some joke aruond the misc. 99% of the misc workout, I guarantee it.
anyway, why keep it to a crowd of "bodybuilders" who are known as arrogant and often to scare off people... when you can open it as a gym for every type of person including bodybuilders...
so have what a normal gym has... then an extra corner for full out squat racks, etc.

Not necessarily looking to make money. I'm an entrepreneur. I have a full-time job. I want to open multiple businesses. Breaking even for what I do, giving the Philadelphia area another gym exclusively for bodybuilders and weightlifters may be beneficial to many people I've spoken to at fitness centers, etc.

You're right. I don't know what a gym is. Thanks for the input.

Because that is what every other gym is - A place for 'bodybuilders' and a place for the cardio-fitness people. It's nothing new in the market down here, it's nothing that will make people say "holy cow", and who knows what type of crowd I may bring?
Being in a city of five major colleges with D-1 or D-2 sports, a city of six or seven professional sports leagues, a wide variety of people interested in bodybuilding and the sport... all may lead to something, just something.
If I were trying to make money, I'd already have a business plan written up, with venture capital or angel investor money, ready to open up and boom. But no - it's not about that. A place like Skiba's in North Jersey, or the Metroflex in Texas, or the original Gold's in Venice come a one-in-a-million.
Even if the gym I wanted to open could cater touring IFBB pros, or professional athletes, or people who wanted to lift AWAY from the fitness center genre of gym - that would be business right there.
I appreciate everyone's support (and critique).
