Bread?
And no I'm not talking about money. I'm sure there's a thread about bread on the forum somewhere but I'm too lazy right now to look. So my question is how many of you eat bread? What kind of bread do you eat (brand names)?
I'm asking because I'm trying to shy away from bread because I can't find any without HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). My doc says that HFCS should be avoided if possible but that also it's effects aren't clearly understood. Does anyone else have similar concerns. Every label of bread I've seen contains HFCS!
I could make my own bread but man that would really start to cut into my free time that I have.

I've been using Ezekiel 4:9 bread.
"We discovered when these six grains and legumes are sprouted and combined, an amazing thing happens. A complete protein is created that closely parallels the protein found in milk and eggs. In fact, the protein quality is so high, that it is 84.3% as efficient as the highest recognized source of protein, containing all 9 essential amino acids. There are 18 amino acids present in this unique bread ? from all vegetable sources ? naturally balanced in nature."

I just picked up some bread from whole foods. I forget the name but will get back to you. It has 5 grams of fat, 18 gr carb, 8 gr fiber, and 14 (yes 14) gr protein per 2 slices at 180 calories. I have not tried it yet but plan to tonight with my 2 turkey patties

update...the bread was pretty darn tasty. I toasted it and put 2 turkey patty's in between with a lil brown mustard and a couple pickles.
I will buy this again for sure

A bit of HFCS is probably not such a big deal. Depending on what else you eat that has HFCS in it and how much bread, if it only amounts to a few g/day, and you have difficulty finding something better, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Found a sub for bread for me a couple months ago; med. size flour tortillias at W-Mart...good for anything; egg, sloppy joe mix, p.butter......whatever. I can tear one in half, spoon some stuff on it and I'm satisfied and didn't use '2 slices' of bread. Don't miss bread at all & maybe it's not related, but finally very near 32W pants size again.

Your doctor is a smart one .. I find lots of breads without corn syrup or hydrogenated fats(margarine, crisco etc..) corn syrup is a mean MF should be banned along with hydrogenated fat (already banned in NYC restaurants)
I don't know where you live but look for the "organic" section in your supermarket, low fat breads aren't necessarily better.. look at the ingredients
In any case the best thing would be to find a real organic bakery for some delicious sour dough, ww or rye.. beats the mass produced supermarket breads any day

Yep, which is one of the reasons I stopped buying Brownberry 100% whole wheat bread.
I couldn't believe it! 100% whole wheat and then they add HFCS.
Now I give it to my dog.

Boohyah!
I'm cheating on the bread issue.
I got diagnosed with celiacs two years ago and gulten-free bread is not nice. Cured me of my bread habit pretty quickly.

It amazes me how much of a 'habit' it really is. For people that eat a lot suggest dropping bread from their diet and WHOA! major backlash with lot's of justification for eating it!
Tell someone they should drop canned tuna in favor of steak or fresh salmon - doesn't seem to be such a big deal.
-
TIMMY!!!!
I agree with Chodan9 Natures Own 100%. Been eating this a while and since reading this thead went and check the packaging. No HFCS and very tasty.
