    Box squats starting weight.

so im gonna start working box squats into my routine after im done with my current cycle. I'm wondering how much weight you guys work out with on box squats in relation to free squats. I can do 5x5 with 425 on free squats, going below parallel but not quite ATG, w/o a belt. I'm guessing my 5RM is about 450-460 but i havent tried it. anyway, what do you think would be a good weight to start with if i was gonna do the same 5x5 on box squats? I figure I should use a low estimate since i havent box squatted in like 4 years.

Hell, your first workout, just start excessively low (call it a warm up) and see where it starts to get tough. I'd say just start at 135, then like 225, then 315, etc. 135 will be easily done, just using that to get some blood flowing, and joints moving. But keep working up until it starts to get tough.

Generally the first time you try a new exercise, it is a learning experience, and it might not be a optimal as a future iteration, because you might waste some sets to see where you're at.

    x2

once you get the initial form down with 135 ( you could probably start at 225 ) then you could do a couple reps and then up the weight, couple reps, up the weight, etc. That way, you can find a challenging weight before you're tired from trying so many smaller weights.

naturally i am gonna start low on workout 1. I am really just wondering how strong you guys (that actually box squat) are on box squats compared to your numbers on free squats.
