Blood Test Question.

Hi a couple day's ago i got my blood work done, and everything looks fine but what scares me a little is when i compare to my previous CBC, like 1 and a half ago my platelet counts were 162.000 then 6 months ago they were 157.000 and now they are at 140.000 ( the normal value here in the lab is 140.000- 400.00, i asked the lab about that and they told me that it is normal and nothing is wrong, then i went to the doctor and he told me they can go up and down, and it could be from the dieting and so on and if it was something serious that it would be way below normal value, just wanted to ask maybe because you all in here diet and take supplements,, i was also taking Glutamin micronized, thanks

As you were informed, your blood picture naturally varies as a part of the process of homeostasis - that is the body maintaining its status quo via adaptational changes (i.e. to things such as stress, infections, injury, drugs, toxins, disease etc, etc). As dieting is a form of stress on the body, but also usually constitutes a change in dietary content, you would also expect to see some minor changes in you blood work, if you didn't then I'd be worried! Plus, as you can see, 'normal' constitutes a 'range', that is because healthy parameters cover a spectrum for the very reason stated above, that of homeostasis. It's just the way the body works. As thpost above says, if there were anything of concern in your bloods your doctor would inform you. Best not to self diagnose, its a one way street to hypochondriasis! :-). Worry not.

Regards
