Hey guy and gals, i'm here to tell you about my success. Tomorrow will make six weeks without touching alcohol. Now you might be saying whoa!!! Whats the big deal. Well, for the last 5 years or so I have for the most part drank at least a twelve pack a day. A DAY! Plus endless bottles of my favorite (Makers Mark) bourbon. I quit cold turkey.. You can stop drinking. All you have to do is replace it. Find something else to do. Go to the gym. Take your kid to the park. Go for a walk. Build something. I'm here to tell you, I feel great. Getting up is easier. I'm doing a better job at work. And as a husband and father. YOU CAN DO IT. You will also save a ton of money. Pretty soon i'm going to use my saving to buy a boat. (Wade fishing burns 500 calories per hour). I'm exited to share this news with the board. Will post an updated progress pic in my other thread. Have a great night, and put the sauce down.

It's not difficult at all. I'm in college and all my friends drink a lot. People make fun of me sometimes because I don't drink as much as I used, which was a lot. They have since started to bother me less about it, but now I get ripped on a lot for protein powder. I don't let it bother me. I just drink once a quarter now, and on special occasions, New Year's, my birthday, Christmas parties. I feel much better since I have cut down on the drinking and have no desire to go back to the way I was.

Gratz dude! It's awesome to hear people give up things that I, myself, struggle with on a week to week basis. I'm only a social drinker, and not a heavy drinker by any means. But unfortunately, I'm 22 and in college. I have to stick to my Vodka+sugar free redbull on weekends because I'll be damned if I'm the only guy sitting in the corner sober haha.

Good job. Im about to do the same thing. I used to drink a glass of wine every night with dinner, but I think it is really hurting my progress, so I have dropped it and even though it is hard, i believe it will pay off.
Keep up the great progress![Stickam Crǝw]

Glass of wine every night definitely shouldn't be hurting your progress, and should actually be good for most people (considering you don't have a history of alcohol abuse, etc.). Believe it or not, drinking alcohol actually raises your levels of HDL (good cholesterol), and also reduces the formation of clots that can block arteries in the heart, neck, and brain which could lead to heart attacks and strokes.
Moderate alcohol consumption is the key though. For men, moderate alcohol consumption can be 1-2 drinks per day (studies have shown you'll have a 30-40% less chance to have a heart attack than men who don't drink alcohol at all). For females, it's been studied that 2 drinks or more per day could actually increase your chances of developing breast cancer, very slightly (12 out of every 100 women as opposed to 15 out of every 100 women in the Nurses Health Study done by the Harvard School of Public Health).Last edited by dgessler; 06-13-2008 at 10:03 PM.

Great job!! I bet 100 of those extra lbs on you are because of liquor.

Yeah, I agree with dgessler, everything I've read about wine is that a glass a day - even two - can be healthy. The only time I completely abstain from alcohol is during a cutting phase, otherwise I enjoy a glass of port in the evening. Looking at your transformation pics, you look great so a glass of wine will not hurt you.
